Is everyone playing this game at the arcade or on PS2 or are they emulating it? If they're emulating it are they using Mame? I'm not asking for roms i'm just asking for methods.

This game is only available as a PCB (arcade). No PS2 port has been announced. Don't expect it playable in MAME any time this decade.

You guys don't have a bittorrent client or something? It's not hard to use and downloads much faster.

I just use BitComet to download shmup vid torrents. It downloads them about 5-10x faster than regular downloads like megaupload.

Damn, i sure would enjoy playing this. Are there others in this series? Possibly available for home play? The arcades here are just full of driving simulators and DDR clones now.

It's games like this that are the reason the Japanese don't respect the Americans as gamers, and we get Doki Doki Panic as a sequel to Super Mario Bros rather than the ACTUAL Super Mario Bros 2 that Japan got.

As of noon today, it was not there. :(
They did have a 1.0 there, w/ Ultra mode unlocked. What a waste of 100 yen that was.

Looking at the 2ch thread, looks like icycalm's site is linked in post #191.

EDIT: Fuck me in the goat ass. Looks like they cranked it up some time in the evening (long after I left). Maybe I should head back out there tonight once the little punk crashes. Looks like only one post in the 2ch thread. He says God isn't as hard as Ultra.

Yeah, the buzz on 2ch is that it starts on sunday. Must have gotten pushed back a day. Either that or the 2ch people are full of shit again. :?

Cool you got to play 1.0's Ultra, but I can imagine it pretty much is a waste.

EDIT: message 931 on the 2ch thread says the location test started saturday evening. Could be BS though, of course.

Was it a waste because it wasn't any good, or because your ass got handed to you so quickly? From what I've seen, I'd probably die in the first 30 seconds.

Didn't even make it halfway through stage 1. I played a few credits on Original though, and I must say, I like it better than 1.5. I think the difficulty is just right.

Playing for score in 1.5's Original mode is much more fun than in 1.0's. I liked 1.0's first three stages, but overall 1.5 is way better. If you want a challenge then just play 1.5 and score well. The rank really kicks up when you get 50,000+ on the counter. I don't know if there was rank in 1.0, but probably not, as the gem values were much lower, so it was hard to get the counter very high.

Yeah I saw that. Probably BS. I doubt Cave would let Hey have the game for a weekend when the game is coming out 10 days later. It's not really a location test in that instance, as there isn't enough time to change the code and reprogram the game in 10 days. For example, Futari 1.5 came out on the 19th of December last year, but the master version was dated December 8th. There was also no location test for that game.

Plus, no mention of this location test on Cave's site or any other official source. And they always advertise their loke tests somewhere.

Did they loke test Ibara: BL? I was in Hawaii at the time, but I don't think they did.

Did anyone else here order one? I downsized the collection... got enough for BL in like 3 days. I got enough for another one a few days after that. :)

Yes, they did. Icycalm did a write up with photos here:

http://insomnia.ac/japan/ibara_black_label.php

Interestingly, the loke test was on Feb 3rd-5th, while the game was released Feb 14th. So that would give more credit to the idea that Cave may be doing a 'loke test' roughly 10 days before the release of Futari BL. But 'loke test' in this sense is really more of a 'sneak preview', in other words the product is finished and the version released 10 days later will be identical.

an unrelated question since youre a linguist expert..

why is it called loke-test ?

shouldnt it be loce-test from location test?

Technically there's no "c" in romanizing Japanese. If you just wrote the word it was derived from it would be "location test". To write the goofy abbreviation you would use the Japanese way: "loke".

Good question. GP covered the reason for the /k/ rather than the /c/. But technically if it's a pure transliteration from the Japanese, it would be 'roke', since they have no /l/. However, since people here have traditionally written it as 'loke', an interesting hybrid of the English spelling and the Japanese truncated transliteration, I just use the same convention for the sake of comprehension.

Ultimately, it's a nice shortened version of the word 'location' that takes into account the usage of the word in a particular context in Japan, and it is more recognizable than other abbreviated options among the English and Japanese versions of this word, such as 'loca', 'loce', 'roce', or 'roke'. Though "Loc Test" would probably work just as well, if one does not mind losing the ability to orthographically represent the specificity of this word in Japan.

The Japanese have borrowed lots of English words in recent years. They have a tendency to truncate these words to two moras either when they borrow them or when they compound them.
