so how does one go about getting all these mobilephone shmups?
apparently esprade and progear and shitloads more are availible?
just buy a cellphone from HK and pick up the games i suppose.. any onlinestores that sellthese?
phone shmups?
It would be really cool with some decent mobile phone shooters. Seems I'm always denied access to the overpriced games you find ads for in magazines, though I'd think my phone would play JAVA games as well as any other phone.

I always find that mobile phone games are incredibly cumbersome to control. I can't really imagine me playing a Cave based shooter on the phone with those sort of controls.
Ikaruga review now up in PLASMA BLOSSOM
yeah but dude.. look at the utter shit we have for our mobile phones.. anyone caught playing that crap for more than 10mins should be beaten with a stick.. im sure if cave go thru the trouble of making a mobilephone version of progear there is a damn good way to control it making it enjoyable..?
did ANYONE actually ever try one of these games?
I live in Japan and have a nice, fancy FOMA phone. I can run the highest-end cell games available in this country - and I've tried cell phone games from both Cave and Konami.
They all suck. Don't waste your time. Imagine playing your favorite games with a broken controller. You really want to have fun but you just can't. Something is in the way. Save your money and just enjoy some good games at home...

The only reason I would ever be interested in mobile gaming is to play Darius Gate and Darius Zone Q, two mobile exclusive games that never came out for any other system. They came out in 2002 and were only available for a short time. Now, about the only way to get them is if you live in Thailand. Honestly, I have to agree, mobile gaming is really more trouble than it's worth. Who wants to play a game on a screen the size of a stamp anyway, not to mention control issues.
Control issues are the biggest barrier to fun, IMO. Screens are not too bad, the size is reasonable and the quality is great. But controls, alas those controls.
The problems? Inconsistent d-pads from phone to phone. Simultaneous button events not supported (no pressing 2 buttons at once). Finally, a cramped arrangement in general.
I think we're soon to see d-pads like the PSP has on mobile phones though, that might be enough to put the games over the edge.
