I agree. But if you're going to use shmup, you might as well spell it right. How are people getting to the site if they cannot spell it correctly anyway...

i just say shooter or shmup because "stg" is retarded and "shooting game" is too long

do you cringe everytime you type the url for this site?, pretty harsh for someone with your record around here..

these days shootemups are FPS games and shooting games usually involve somekind of gun perpherial, theres no mistaking a shmup.

* STG: too close to STD to be used effectively in the English language.
* shooter: has connotations of shot glasses filled with vodka, whisky etc. Also, Class A drug injection. Or psychotic uni student armed with an AK-47.
* shooting game: no, not like Quake. Or Half-Life. Or GTA.

I wish FPSes went the road of gameplay refinement like 2d shooters had as opposed to being a testbed for graphics technology (Quake, Doom, FEAR, countless other mediocre games) or put in a blender with the graphical point and click adventure (Half-Life series).

Yes, System Shock 2 is the only FPS I still play seriously.

Then again, they might leave the concept to stagnate, and we'll be seeing more Quake/UT/HL sequels.

a bit off-topic but saves me of making another topic: it seems the site is dedicated to only ship shooters? no character ones like contra and such? i always thought shoot-em-up comes in two kinds: character and ship. is this site only for ship?

Well, ESPrade and the Touhou games are "character shooters" in the sense that flying people replace the ship sprites.
Contra, Metal Slug, etc. are considered "run'n'gun" games and not shmups. I'm pretty sure there's topics about this already.

It's for 2d shmups without gravity, except in Aero Blasters. One stage is OK.
