Thank you for typing this and saving my time.LSU wrote: You may be quite surprised at just how much better it is.
The main thing is there is far less slowdown on the Saturn version - this isn't just a graphical thing, it really affects the gameplay.
Then there are the graphical differences - the Saturn version uses the fancy scaling hardware to do high bit-depth, nicely detailed backgrounds. Whereas the PS1 version is by comparison, and putting it politely, a little ugly to look at.
So the Saturn version simply looks and plays a lot better.
The extra ship on the PS1 version is really the only reason I own that version as well.
SOUKYUGURENTAI
I know it is graphically superior, but I didn't realize it would affect it so much so that it would cause a lot of slowdown. I don't really notice much slowdown until late Stage 3 on PS1 and that's quite alright if you ask me. I'm sorry to keep beating a dead horse, but having played PS1 to a good extent I just don't think it's too terrible compared to Saturn... which I haven't played.LSU wrote:You may be quite surprised at just how much better it is.

No it does not of course, But after investigating quite a bit about the game it actually preforms allot better on ST-VBrianC wrote:That's not it. ST-V ports are usually dead on for the Saturn since they use similar hardware to the arcade. The arcade version doesn't make the Saturn one obsolete.Copeland wrote:I think to save all arguments just get the damm original St-V and thats it. Perfect.
That is the first I heard this. I heard the Saturn version is very close to the arcade.Copeland wrote:No it does not of course, But after investigating quite a bit about the game it actually preforms allot better on ST-VBrianC wrote:That's not it. Yes very close but not exact %100BrianC wrote:That is the first I heard this. Then you say that the Saturn version isCopeland wrote:it actually preforms allot better on ST-V
You are contradicting yourself. If the Saturn version is "very close" then the ST-V cart can't "perform a lot better". "A lot better" would mean it's not close at all.Copeland wrote:very close but not exact %100
No i cannot see any contradictions in anything i have said.Ceph wrote:Then you say that the Saturn version isCopeland wrote:it actually preforms allot better on ST-V

Very close + 100% mean two completely different things. Google the meanings.

I wouldn't compare the two...different games, but both good in their own ways. Layer Section is also in my top 10 to 20 shmups as well.versionfiv wrote:I got soukyu for Saturn yesterday. I can already say it's very fun and it isn't going to be easy to beat.
IMO it also feels a little similar to Galactic Attack, but pulls off the whole package much better than GA.
EDIT:
Sorry, I hate the name "Galactic Attack"..."Layer Section" is much more sexier and makes more sense (as a title) once you get into the game.

And don't go back to lurking! More friendly people that don't just want to bicker dilutes the 'out of hand' stuff!
Me too. Good one Icy! I understand the purpose and role of the search engine, but if most things here are alreay said in older threads then why do we use a forum and not just cruise the whole net searching and Googling? For discussion of course... (and community and japes)MX7 wrote:Lol, the first time I've ever agreed with something Icycalm has said D:icycalm wrote:If "all the questions regarding this game have been answered before, and more than once" then why not stick that in FAQ, ban all discussion on this game, and have BulletMagnet come here and lock this thread too?
I mean, jeez. Inanity like this, I swear to God, only on the internet.
Only on the internet.
