Square restrictor, or octagonal?
Square restrictor, or octagonal?
Which do you prefer? I don't have a whole lot of experience playing SHMUPs with arcade hardware, unfortunately... when I think about it, it seems like a square gate would be better for these games, while an octagonal gate might be better for fighters.
If I was to use one stick for both genres of games, which might I want to go with?

Okay. I've got a stick coming with an octagonal gate. I was hoping it would be okay for both styles of games, but if it's going to make a significant difference I'll look into swapping the square gate back in.
What's your reasoning behind the Seimitsu > Sanwa? I figured a JLF would be fine.

changing the gate is very simple. they just snap on and snap off.
some of the more outspoken dudes around here will say they prefer seimitsu for its shorter throw. Some find the octagon restrictor more natural to the movements.
I use sanwa with square gate and seem to do just fine. But I do find the octagonal seimitsu's at my arcade to be pretty sweet too.
If I only played shmups I'd go with seimitsu, but I love fighters a whole lot too, maybe more. And I prefer sanwa for all my fighters.

I find Sanwa far too loose, the throw really isn't great for twitch gaming in my opinion.
