Retro means different things to different people though. For example a lot of people insist that only 8-bit stuff is retro, while others look at retro as being something from their youth (in this case for 20 somethings it would be the PlayStation). Retro is a very broad term and depends on each individual. I ran a feature on Half-Life and there were loads of complaints because it was deemed as not a retro title (despite the fact it was released the same year as several Saturn games, which many people do consider to be retro).

Still, maybe I am being a little hopeful... You can't blame me though ;)

Good news this MAY be; but like I said, until there's a US release date for this Capcom collection, which there isn't even for next year, I'll believe it when I see it.

Haha, I bought that capsule from a dispenser at Ocean Park in Hong Kong. I think it cost me $5 HK (maybe around 0.80 cents US) but I was feeling EXTREMELY cheap otherwise I'd have kept at it until getting a 1942, or at least a Sidearms or Exed Exes :\ And now the chance is gone...
I was really bored that day...

I'm still immensely curious what will be on it. If it covers everything on all 5 discs of generations (a possibility) this would be an awesome deal anyway.

But yeah, no tate would suck a caribou's ass...

It most definately would be. Although I still see no evidence that this collection will get a US release.

Why? Megaman Anniversary collection got a release in the US and that's hardly one of Capcom's finest licenses.
Capcom is fully aware of how popular retro is at the moment, and if they are just the Capcom Generation games (although, I'm postive that they're not) it's going to cost next to nothing to load them onto a disc and bring them to the US and UK.

Don't forget, this actual compilation was announced by accident when one of Capcom's heads mentioned that a Mega Man X compilation would be appearing. He also insisted that hardly any of the games had previously appeared on home consoles. That's proof alone that it isn't going to be something new.

Announced at Las Vegas means a US announcement. Anyway, the US is actually Capcom's largest market currently. The Japanese won't even get a Mega Man Anniversary Collection as it stands (though the PS2 got the box with a collection of the PS1 games).

Capcom also confirmed Capcom Classic Collections, the compilation will feature 20 classic titles, including ones that were never released on consoles before, no specific titles have yet been announced.

Something is definately happening. While it's likely that a few games from the previous Capcom PS1 titles will appear, there's still going to be new stuff. I'll dig around when I'm at work on Monday and see if I can get any more info out of them.

Again, just to get 5 discs worth of stuff ($30 x 5= $150) for a normal priced game, even a normal import priced game is a steal. So I'd be pumped if there was nothing new on it; but new games cinches the deal! I'm so waiting for the line up!

Then everyone can come to their senses and realize that Vulgus is the best shmup ever :P

Ok, I gotcha! Still, upcoming games always appear even on Gamefaqs (the Mega Man X collection is listed there) and I haven't seen any mention of this game on IGN, Gamefaqs; only that article you listed.

Guys, guys, guys.... It was in GAME INFORMER! You get this magazine off the counter at Gamestop for a dollar an issue. If they're talking about it, it's coming. Look at what Capcom has recently done with the xbox. None of their properties on that system have sold well, and yet they still went ahead and did a port of the Street Fighter Anniversary collection and now they're porting the Mega Man collection to the sytem too. These collections are easy to produce and if done right sell really well. With the financial flaming wrecks that were Shadow of Rome and Viewtiful Joe 2, I would think Capcom has every motivation to stir up some quick and easy cash. So what if EB doesn't have a date in their computer for it? I asked a guy at EB yesterday if he had a date for PSP Namco Museum and he said, "NO," and gave me a dumbfounded look that the title even existed.

And to all the early haters saying, "I won't buy this if it doesn't have X game," all I can say is BUDGET TITLE. There's no way it will debut at over $30 and you're getting a solid decade of Capcom arcade games for that price. Try to track down all those discs and an arcade-perfect port of Final Fight and you'd be up over $100 in a hurry. CAPCOM LOVES YOU. Remember the Dreamcast? They killed themselves to bring all kinds of amazing things to that system.

Ok, point well taken man. I guess I'm just so used to thinking that if it isn't on any release schedule of any gaming site, like IGN or Gamefaqs, that it's not going to come out.

It's on the way mate :D

I work for gamesTM (UK multiformat games magazine) and I've been following this announcement for ages. From what I can gather, Capcom is definately up to something and the compilation is going to be here. As I said, I'll try and get some more info on Monday.

GamesTM huh? I really like the magazine and what you guys do with the Retro section, but here in the US I have to pay $10-$12 for an issue which is hard to take. Not your fault of course, as I'd buy more issues if I could get it at regular magazine price.

One odd little GamesTM note: In the review for Border Down, in the "game maths" section, they wrote that it was a better game than Dodonpachi Dai-ou-jou. ????? Even if that's the consensus, and I can live with that though I disagree, they're totally different games. Comparing a vert and horzie--both with such different scoring systems--just seems silly.

Thanks man! (As we say over here.) :D

I just can't wait to see a US release date, even if, like with so many other games, it get's changed a million times.

The Border down review was written by someone who no longer writes for us (he left to work for Blockbusters) and he wasn't exactly a mega shmups fan.

While I write the odd review for the mag, I'm actually responsible for the retro section (I pretty much write all of it) and usually feature shumps whenever I get the chance. :o

Cool, an insider. :) Do you have any idea of any shmups that might be on it besides 1942 and 1943? I promise I'll take anything you say with a big grain of salt, won;t reveal your secret identity and won't get mad if it turns out false. :P

Well, given Eco Fighters has already been released on a retro compilation.

Dimahoo needs a release though.

Is there a Japanese version of the Capcom collection vol. 2? Does it have tate for Varth?

This one would be worth importing were it the case (especially given Rob's recent endorsement of the game!)

The PSP version has Tate and looks/plays stunning (once you get some grips and a Capcom or Hori Dpad cover).

All the PSP Vert games have a tate mode (although their harder to play - obviously - someone needs to invent a Tate grip for the PSP).

Not sure about the non-portable versions though.

Oh and Hi Daz....just about to read that Shump history in latest Ish.

I think Maxi somehow posted something about Darius Gaiden wrongly at a completely random topic, and suddenly people are discussing about this again?

Check the posting dates guys :)

How about we cancel this bugged week and play two hidden gems?

...

Well, as I`m probably the only here who likes this idea, I will at least suggest Daioh to the next week.

Oh, I`m forgot, yes, I post on the wrong topic. Sorry for that.
