Yeah. It could have a TATE mode too. The funny thing is the new PSP slim has over double the RAM of a PS2, with its 64MB RAM. So it could handle Ketsui better than the PS2.

BTW guys, could you stop quoting that whole huge picture? Makes the thread cumbersome to read.

I'm sure someone can figure it out

but you'd probably have to sacrifice your DS

And since the PSP Slim and Lite has a d-pad that easily surpasses the quality of both the original PSP and the DS Lite one it might actually be playable.

I hae an old clunker DS. The DPad is definitely not fit for shooting games if you're used to arcade sticks.

Trust me, DSL is even worse in that regard. So keep your fatty one.

Agreed. The "ol' clunker" DS has a very nice d-pad, really. Better than most consoles in fact =) Nice and clicky

that looks more like the dev system for the nintendo ds, it's not just a cable. the "ds" there is wired into the blue box that you can see through the hole. the blue box can then interface with codewarrior or other IDEs to allow debugging on a pc.

i believe it's the nitro debugger, i played with one when i was working with a local game company.

that link for displaying to a larger display is pretty cool tho.

One important gameplay mechanic I forgot to mention. There's an autobomb feature. If you get hit, you lose all your bombs, but of course save a life. Your last bomb also slows down the bullets quite a bit. I think it's pretty weak b/c I'm always looking to use two of my bombs and ride the last one out as long as possible.

I've been gone for awhile. Nice to come back and see that this was confirmed. Still amazed a Cave game was ported to the DS. Ditto that the Lite's pad takes a LOT of getting used to (I play Gunstar SH exclusively on my SP) and ditto that a PSP slim rev using the TV out would be sweet. In any case, I'll still be unable to resist this despite Gaijin's disappointing impressions.

It looks like easily the most intense game on DS. I play Gradius Galaxies on my Onyx Lite all the time, I don't have a problem with the D-pad.

That's what I can't stand about the original DS. The clicky feeling makes it feel like you're playing with a toy.

Any news on this since the trailer, release date, anything?
Is it definitely 'just' the bosses, or are they considering including more?

No. Wrong. The DS isn't a toy. The PSP isn't a toy. They're considered hi-tech handheld console devices and I don't want some annoying clicky bullshit for a dpad. This is why they upgraded to the DS Lite. They knew for a fact that the original DS wasn't up to par much like Microsoft knew the original Xbox controller wasn't up to par, and they made a newer model.

It makes perfect sense.

Don't even THINK about a smartalic reply.

Clicky diagonals always work. The lite's sometimes don't. I don't care if it DOES feel like a "toy" (which it really is), I want functionality. The old DS's d-pad just WORKS better. The clicky part is nice because you KNOW if you're hitting a direction or not. Unlike on the Lite where you kind of have to mash your thumb down real hard and hope.

And I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the d-pad change on the lite was purely due to a lack of space. The GBASP has the nice clicky d-pad, and everyone (but you) loves it. Same with the clunker DS. EVERYONE's biggest complaint (but yours) with the Lite is the retarded d-pad.

Maybe in Bizarro World games aren't toys. Or in Soviet Russia. In Soviet Russia, game plays YOU!

Yes and yes, but don't tell either... Both are very touchy about things like that. Especially cars o_O

either you have a twisted definition of "playing" that probably stems from administrating gamefaqs, or your point is poorly worded. nonetheless, people treating them as such (in the classical definition) have serious mental conditions that need to be addressed

though, you implying that a video game console has the same importance as a car or emotional value of a member of the opposite sex (or same sex) is quite ludicrous and subsequently hilarious and as a result you are not much better than the group of people treating the aforementioned two as toys

No. Dig deeper.

It is obviously beyond you that I was merely using those two as examples, nothing more. No, let's not bother considering that, clearly I'm fucked in the head due to being a gamefaqs member of moderation (something that I'm sure people here would grab if given the opportunity).

But it doesn't matter whether people are considering them toys or not. The point is the clicky dpad was annoying as hell and I couldn't play games like Jump! Super Stars with it. Then again, the "made for asian hands" DS Lite dpad, complete with "lack of diagonal accuracy" isn't much better.

PSP would be a better idea for Ketsui, now that the Slim is out.

I hate it. It's the main reason I use the Micro for playing GBA games almost exclusively.

maybe you could choose better examples, like televisions and computers, which can be played with by sane individuals but have more practical uses than toys

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game
Key components of games are goals, rules, challenge, and interactivity. Games generally involve mental or physical stimulation, and often both. Many games help develop practical skills, serve as a form of exercise, or otherwise perform an educational, simulational or psychological role.
A GAME is not a TOY. Those are two different things, but since both are usually connected to childlike play, people seem to confuse them.

A game console isn´t a toy because it´s a mere game-player. Without a game inserted, it simply is a electronic device meant to play something on it, like a CD player. If you insert, say, Tetris DS into the DS, then you can play a game with it. If you insert Electroplankton, THEN you are playing with a toy.

The device itself isn´t a toy, it´s a program player. It´s contents is interchangeable, with no distinctive character of its own.
# If no goals are associated with a plaything, it is a toy. (Crawford notes that by his definition, (a) a toy can become a game element if the player makes up rules, and (b) The Sims and SimCity are toys, not games.) If it has goals, a plaything is a challenge.
# If a challenge has no “active agent against whom you compete,” it is a puzzle; if there is one, it is a conflict. (Crawford admits that this is a subjective test. Some games with noticeably algorithmic artificial intelligence can be played as puzzles; these include the patterns used to evade ghosts in Pac-Man.)
