I'm gonna go with the PS1 version. I love the high-res graphics, and I don't think it's anymore "unfair" then any other port of this game. Plus, there are level passwords:

Incidentally I've never played the PS1 viewpoint. But considering the fact that the big draw for the game is the soundtrack, I can't imagine that one being superior to the cart.

Future Spy (also from Sega) is another one, now found in the PS2 Sega Genesis Collection. Bally Midway billed the game in the flyer as having a "Time Travel" theme.
