It should be mentioned the original Ikaruga development team is doing this port, so expect it to be spot on. I'm not very interested in this, as I've played ikaruga to death (400+hours probably), and I've retired. I'm very satisfied with my 29.5 mil no-miss ALL in Normal arcade mode.
If they had added a remixed mode with all new stage chains to figure out, I'd be all over this. Oh well.

You just need to decide with your teammate what's your job and what's his. Not that hard, believe me, I practiced up to stage 3 with a friends getting about 9 million overall. It's just like playing in a band, or something.kengou wrote:too bad co-op in Ikaruga kind of sucks except for double play. Each player screws up the other's chains and neither player has any fun.

Odd, I've found Ikaruga to be the most fun 2 player shmup experience I've ever had (not counting vs games like Twinkle Star Sprites or Phantasmagoria of Flower View). Trying to figure out how to split up the chaining, and team-work your way through a stage, only to screw over your teammate with suicide bullets or pushing him into a wall. Which for me and my roommate, results in more laughter than anger. It's also pretty interesting trying to keep your chain when your partner screws up his (which can often screw yours up if you're not careful). We just have so much fun playing Ikaruga 2-player.kengou wrote:too bad co-op in Ikaruga kind of sucks except for double play. Each player screws up the other's chains and neither player has any fun.

Medium also has more bullets and more enemies in some parts (like most of chapter 4). The difficulty is harder, even if it lets you use your charge shot more. IMO the chains in normal are harder than the chains in easy simply because you need to deal with the suicide bullets and using your charge shot more.Pirate1019 wrote:No suicide bullets = Less bullets = Less power for charge shotmsm wrote:how come? i find easy to be easier than normalTwiddle wrote:easy is harder than normal
The bosses are much easier in easy than normal, at least.

True. Ikaruga's a great shmup, and all, but I would just like to see some more games that never got home console ports on XBLA. But maybe this will turn out to be "the port ever".Twiddle wrote:Why would you need to? The display is big enough and it's not like they're working with sprites.

Of course you can. The real question is why everyone here is afraid to.dave4shmups wrote:Really, can you even tate an HDTV?

Somehow I don't think rotating a 50+" projector TV is going to work out well.
Flat panels are a different story, obviously, but it's kind of overkill for such a small purpose.

But how is it overkill? I mean, if you willing to invest that kind of money for that much tv, why wouldn't you want to get the most out of it? You may as well watch your movies in 4:3 then(if that is correct). I asked this question awhile back and no one gave a definite answer other than "you don't tate hdtv's". C'mon now, why wouldn't anyone want to play Ikaruga on a large, tated flatpanel widescreen? if lag isn't an issue.....Twiddle wrote:Somehow I don't think rotating a 50+" projector TV is going to work out well.

It's overkill because rotating the 40+" flat panel display is too much effort for that small a purpose, unless you're really that mad about rotating, then I don't have any words.
You can rotate a DLP projector with few ill effects and there's less work involved, too.

2-Player bullet eating that stage is fun because my friends don't understand the concept of hitboxes.JJG wrote:My only experience with two player Ikaruga is that stage two turns into a game of who can push who into the boxes.
Actual quote from a friend about Gradius V:
"This game is so unrealistic. Look at all of those bullets hitting the sides of your ship."
"You are the Hero of Tomorrow!"
