Going back to what started this...

I wouldn't put that much stock in Malachy's foretellings. To call those descriptions "vague" would be an understatement. I'm sure you could pick any one of those descriptors (say, "flower of flowers"), and you could find some way to have it describe half the popes since Malachy's time.

Y'know it's funny - i actually was playing Gradius Galaxies when i finally came to my conclusions about existence and reality. Those beliefs are the closest thing to religion i got. I try not to talk about what i believe to much though - cause i ain't no preacher - not even for my 'religion'.

I will say something though - if everything is infinite (and it very well could be) then anything is possible and somewhere out there a little ship is ducking and weaving through countless hordes of giagantic Moai heads that fire purple lasers out of thier mouths. That ain't nothin' but cool. 8)

I'm just kidding but a few atheists on this board walk around like they belong to fundamentalist muslim/christian/jewish sects.
Like hell you're our pope. You have no mandate. I refuse to accept your rule. Bam, anti-pope.

I really hope the pope after the next is named Zera.

{snicker} Who wants to open betting on the name the next pope will take? Best odds are for Pius, Benedict, Innocent, and Gregory, I understand, as well as anything that an antipope took (this was a way of searing in the previous name-bearer's antipope status). Of course, we could get an Agapetus, a Sixtus, a Boniface, a Celestine, etc.

Interesting note on Malachy's list--there's a good chance that it's a forgery. You'd think that St. Bernard of Clairvaux, his biographer, would have mentioned it, but he didn't. Also, its first recorded appearance, somewhere in the 16th century, was just in time to help resolve a pope/antipope squabble. How interesting that the prophecies for the later popes are more vague than the ones for the popes prior to the squabble...

And in any case, Yesue himself said that not even HE would ever know anything remotely resembling the starting point of the cataclysm. Only Yhwh. Alas, Malachy doesn't seem to qualify.

NOOOOOOO! He will become one with Valmar and bring chaos and destruction to earth. Not even an army of songstresses and Geohounds will be able to take on him.

The 111th prophecy is "Gloria Olivae" (The Glory of the Olive). The meaning of the olive is unclear. The Order of Saint Benedict – not St. Malachy – has claimed that this pope will come from its ranks and Saint Benedict himself prophesied that before the end of the world his Order, known also as the Olivetans, will triumphantly lead the Catholic Church in its final fight against evil.

The new Pope is Benedict the XVI!!!!

Looks like we won't have to wait long before the supposed last pope considering Benedict XVI is already 78 years old...

Well...

We'll just have to see if this pope thinks to rename himself Peter II.

But again, the list may be a forgery...The timing is too suspect.

Seriously: Is he really the 16th pope named Benedict? Or did he just choose that number because it sounds cool?

Dude, benedict combo +16!!!

I agree though, Elvis I would have been awesome.

And this guy already has sort of a sinister look, so it doesn't take much to imagine the next one looking like the devil.
