But there are still a ton that go UP in value. Games not only lose money due to inflation, their actual dollar value drops as well in almost every case. Games that appreciate over time are extremely rare...even long amounts of time. The point is, if you are into games as an investment, you are a bit of a dipshit (or something like that)Ed Oscuro wrote:I've seen tons of comics that are still only worth their cover price, and this two decades or so after printing. Those have actually lost money due to inflation.
New hope for a PS2 Ketsui port?

Just to go with what undamned said... I bought my Ketsui to play a damn game. At the time I had no idea it would appreciate, nor did I count on it to; I did not buy it as "an investment". If I wanted to do something smarter with my money I would have bought some RRSPs, but instead I wanted to have some fun.segasonicfan wrote:Thing is though, for those of us that have invested in Ketsui and other PCBs, we did so hoping the title(s) would maintain a similar market value.
A good home port of this great game can only be a good thing for the majority of people here and I am excited and will buy at least one copy, but I'll still hang onto my PCB just to have the perfect version. I've already had my fun, it's about time everyone else has a sample too.

Nope. I would play the game.icycalm wrote:Man, oh man.sideshow wrote:I am a console gamer at heart.
So if I gave you a no-name controller and a screen, and the actual hardware was hidden inside a box, so you couldn't tell if it was a console system, a computer, or an arcade system powering the game, what would you do? Would you, like, short-circuit or something and stare at the screen blankly?
Yes, I understand the game was meant to be played in the arcade form but I'm not rich enough to spend 1000 dollars on 1 game when I get a lesser quality port for 50 bucks. Or if Ketsui was ported to the 360 or PS3 then it could be close to arcade perfect if not par.

hi!
I own portz too, OMG!
I'd much rather play them on a cab (my highest scores are always from cabs), but I'm a mobile guy who hasn't the resources to take a cab with him everywhere he goes. Also, I like to spend my money on things that I won't get bored of one day (a bed, a car, a hooker and a hotel room, some blow, etc.)
Ports are easier to carry around and they fit in my lunch box. Thank you baby Jesus, portz are the teh best!

so : arcade perfect = $1000
near as dammit port = $60
I think the $940 dollar difference in a framerate/loadtime/graphical tradeoff (IF ANY) is more than liveable in my eyes...
wether I actually think it's worth that $940 to get those minor additions is another matter.
anyhoo, the PCB dumping is now immediately inevitable, i guess we'll see if a port or an emulatable version comes first.
so, segasonicfan, there's the warning you asked for, better sell your board , as it seems like it's all about the benjamins!

I think the wise folks here will start selling at least their bare PCBs soon (note some recent threads in the Trading Forum here, some have already started doing this). The price will fall like a sack of potatoes once a port or emulated version hits. Then people can buy back the PCB later at a lower price.pixelcorps wrote:

I wouldn't sell the artwork/fliers set though. Those should hold their value pretty well, much like Mushihime-sama.

Right, that's why I said the "wise" people. Once a port or emulated version is announced, it will already be too late. The price will fall immediately. You need to sell it before such an announcement. And a lot of signs are pointing to such an announcement within the next year or so.pixelcorps wrote:
who knows?? it might not get emulated for an age.. and then you'll kick yourself!!
sell, not sell... ohhhh the torture!
But I could be wrong.

I like the game too much to sell my board now, although I "only" paid $500 for it. Then again, I'm not really concerned if the thing drops to $150 in the next year, I got way more than what I paid out of it in enjoyment alone.EOJ wrote:I think the wise folks here will start selling at least their bare PCBs soon (note some recent threads in the Trading Forum here, some have already started doing this). And this is all assuming a port or emulation even occurs in any reasonable time frame. I'm certainly not willing to deprive myself of playing it for some unknown period of time.
omg my investments!!!11!1!

you mean they spent more?? well the gap is even larger more justifiable.iatneH wrote:I agree with most what you posted in this thread, but not everyone who owns a Ketsui board bought one recently at current prices.pixelcorps wrote:so : arcade perfect = $1000

you mean they spent less?? great, they should enjoy their perfect 60fps and no load times and relax...
if you're using these games to play the "geek stock market' you're not being very savvy - the value could drop due to a legit port, or large production runs, whatever - take a course in real estate or something.

I got an idea....
Why not have a Shmups pcb ticker?
That way we can track the change in value of a pcb title on a daily basis.

interestingly, those that demand they only play PCB's and dismiss ports, and have never bought a brand new PCB are actually supporting cave's income less than anyone else, well not at all actually.
might explain this interesting little statistic..

surely if things are in such a plummet, ports should definitely be looked into, let alone an online store where merchandise could be bought.
guess they hope that the DS port and their shitty looking MMO will pull that ever plummeting line back up....
so, with that in mind, maybe we should be buying those ports wether we like them or not... or maybe some of you people hope that your PCB's will skyrocket if cave went bust? which by the look of things could be an inevitability......

2007 Sales: 2,516,895,000 yen? Doesn't seem like certain doom, but I dunno.pixelcorps wrote: might explain this interesting little statistic..

Cave's 2007 earnings report showed they were UP in profits during the fiscal year from 2006-2007, compared to 2005-2006. So I'm not sure where you got that chart.pixelcorps wrote: might explain this interesting little statistic..
