It's not "black label", it has been called "Death label", but that'll probably change upon its release. The unofficial title being used by Mihara is "Ketsui DS".

As for the release date, who knows. I remember seeing Mihara post something about how he'd like to release it by Feb 2008, but don't quote me on that.

Yeah Black Label is a brand of beer....

Must have drank one to many when I typed that. :D

Is it Friday in Japan yet? I'm crapping my pants with anticipation. Or it might be because I've been eating nothing but bean chili for the last three days.

Yes, it's friday in Japan. The last post from Mihara was this one:

http://mihara.sub.jp/top/blog/sb203/mih ... y=20070907

Which was posted at 4am friday morning. He talks about how there's a Typhoon coming near where he lives, and he's a bit scared. No ketsui update yet, I suppose we need to wait for him to wake up and finish it up before presenting it.

Video is online! Linked from Neogaf:

EDIT:
Bullet patterns seem very slow moving... Maybe you will be able to adjust the speed of them in the game?

That video is pure awesomeness. I love the gold boxes. And they turn red when you bomb or autobomb.

The end of the video mentions the Cave festival (Sept 23-24). I guess this will be playable there!

Probably to compensate for the d-pad and small screen. I don't think I could see the bullets if they're as quick as the ones in Mushi on the DS screen, but I'm crap so maybe not! :(

Well looks much better then I thought it would, already looking like a classic and lets hope it plays like one too.

This looks like a winner, but I'm wondering what the second screen will do. Not that I'm hoping it does anything, in fact, I'm hoping it goes black. I still think they're smoking crack for not releasing this on PS2, but my respect for them is back just a little.

The second screen keeps track of your score and multiplier status, as well
as your stage totals. I believe the ship select screen is on that screen as well (you can hear him select the ship in the video, but you don't see it on the upper screen).

You posted a second before me! ;)

BTW I had a great impression from the vid. But what about sound? Maybe it's not done properly yet....or maybe you get always the boss battle song through the whole game?

I'm pretty sure the boss battle song was just used for the promo video. If you note, the boss fights were edited, none were shown in their entirety.

yeah, it's pretty much standard to have just one song (i high quality) playing during a promo video without the sound effects, it's just for quality control / consistency's sake. and it's a good, catchy tune. :)

HADOUKEN!

However this will turn out, from how this promo vid looks this is going to be the best portable shmup ever. (Okay, actually that´s not that hard...) And the bullet patterns look like you can get through them with the mediocre DS (Lite) d-pad, while still retaining the Ketsui-style.

It still has a little bit of the awkwardness of the mobile versions (pixelation, everything moving a bit slower), but it looks great nevertheless. Must-buy.

EDIT: Does anyone have an idea on how the original resolution relates to the DS? Is the player sprite the original size?

So much on screen! It looks amazing! I resized the video to the size of an actual ds screen, and it looks even better. I can't wait to pre-order this baby.

it looks awesome :D might finally be able to get some of my friends to play a cave game!

edit- anyone know if its got propper stages? or is it confirmed as a boss attack or something?

the level 3 mid boss still has the small boats with it and gives you the extend - might indicate a stage? also that bit seems to have more bullets but they move quite a bit slower, and the bit where there's a few deaths in the video is quite easy in the arcade version :?

The graphics already look quite lowres compared to the PCB, I'd guess this is what it will look like on the DS.

I don't own a DS, so I don't know what its capabilities are, but watching that movie (and owning the PCB) this looks pretty scaled down with the animations and such. The scoring system looks screwed up with those 5 boxes poping out with every single fire....something wrong there. The bullet patterns are also extremely slow, but probably due to the horizontal aspect ratio to make it easier.

Not screwed up, modified. The boxes start small then quickly get large and change to "5" boxes. The gold boxes seem to be based on proximity, and duration of uninterrupted fire on the boss. The red boxes which appear when you bomb likely subtract from your multiplier (but I wonder if they have any special effect on your score??).

If the game is all boss fights, they obviously had to modify the scoring system to fit this, otherwise it would be pretty drab.
