I love sarcasm more than most but sometimes it's so hard to tell on here.
Hint: It's Rob praising a game made by neither Takumi nor Psikyo.

But I agree, sarcasm detection can be tough on this board. It was a lot easier back when I used to post at NES boards (100% sarcastic jackasses).

I would, but given the seemingly large amount of potential choices for the stgt I'd rather not have to play through them to see if I like one or few. Anyway, it hardly matters as I'll only have to play one of them next week.

Raiden 3 is pretty mediocre. That is the general opinion. I like the first Raiden, though. It is relaxing.

Yeah, and Blazing Star, Star Force and Air Gallet don't? :P

Air Gallet -- Solid, but not great game. Consider the other options for that week, though.

Blazing Star -- Thrown out because of the voting procedure. Wouldn't be fair to blame this pick on people who don't even post here.

Star Force -- Blame the poll. What were the other options again? We do know Section Z got second place. :?

Agree with the Solo Mode; but Double Mode >>>>>> Solo Mode...

Bolded for my emphasis.

Also, I'm curious to know why people would vote Raiden or Viper Phase One when the Raiden Fighters games have deeper, more involved scoring mechanics that are perfect for tournament play.

That's why I proposed all PhBB boards have sarcasm tags to lessen the confusion.

Watch, and be amazed!

[sarcasm] I really want to play Raiden during the next playweek. I'm really good at it! I would hate to have to play RFJ or VP1 instead! [/sarcasm]

That excuse might be valid if people didn't vote Twinbee Yahhoo! over Salamander 2.

Not that hard to understand. Think of shooters more as puzzle games than games you play to get to point B from point A.

You were doing pretty good at Twinbee, so... what is not to get?

Also, it doesn't matter which Seibu game is selected. It is still going to be like facing a firing squad. More puzzle shooters please.

Good question. I should be optimistic after we (collectively) had the good sense to vote for Dragon Blaze, Batrider, and Twinbee Yahhoo. (Yeah, I think Twinbee was the right choice for the tournament.) So why am I doubtful that anything other than Raiden 1 or 2 will win?

Well, if the poll consists of every available Seibu shooter that is emulated the votes might be split between the three RFs (when competing with a single Raiden).

I probably should have suggested Seibu Week when mamedev got Raiden 2 working instead of now.

how many people have access to Raiden 2 or Raiden DX On home ports?

Let's try to answer this quickly!

I do have Raiden DX. No Raiden 2, but this is easy to get for PC.

RF1 gets no love, RF2 isn't played as much, and everyone seems scared of RFJ.

I don't hate Raiden, it was one of the arcade games instrumental in making me an arcade player when I was younger, so I have a lot of love for it. However, for a scoring tournament, it is far from being the optimal choice when you have better scoring games available.

Not only that, the RFs are short, fast games. An all clear on each will run up to around 20-25mins. For a scoring tournament where progressive improvements are important, being able to roll off up to five credits an hour is better than playing a game for 40 minutes per run. This is especially important for people who have a lack of available free time to invest in each session.

Or DX. Outside of the RFs, DX is the best.

This seems to be the consensus around here, and I do like it best, but I don't think I've ever heard anyone defend this claim.

Very few people have had the chance to play any of the RFs up until recently.
Seibu Week would and should be the perfect chance to rectify that. See what happened to Batrider when it got exposure, the same can happen for the RFs.

Yeah, I agree. What I meant to ask is why there seems to be so much agreement that DX is superior to Raiden 1 and 2. What's the argument? Again, not that I disagree at all.

Bad news: still MAME-only. And take note, Pele Team: I won't be playing RF Jet if it is selected. If that is still an important factor for you guys.

Raiden and Raiden 2 are just straight-up shoot-stuff shooters. Raiden DX has multi-layered scoring depth and greater challenges for players of all skills. You can refine single loop scores in each course through medal chaining and more aggressive play (via boss speedkills), or you can try to multiloop or course-loop the game. Or both.

I'd take DX over I and II any day.
