Just a heads up. Seibu games would have plenty of differences to look out for in-between versions. As Edge is sorting his Excel clusterfuck, now would be the time for everybody with knowledge on the MAMEable Seibu games to tell us what you know regarding what to look for in differences between each game version and/or what version would be suited for STGT and why. Anything that could be relevant will be added to post 1. This is not only for shortlist verification, but so users can also get a heads up in what not to do on their downloading.

Regarding Raiden Fighters series:
As a general rule among the Raiden Fighters versions, the differences are as follows:

Japan: One loop, with an Expert Course (2-1 Start) unlock for completing the original mode in one credit. Highest rank rate increase. Miclus retrieval timer is 2 seconds.
US: Two loops. Rank rate increase the same as Japan's (though RFJ US seems to top out at slightly below the Japan version.) Miclus retrieval timer is .3 seconds, which affects scoring.
Asia: Two loops. Rank rate increase is lowered significantly compared to the US and Japan versions. Miclus retrieval timer is 2 seconds.

Regarding Viper Phase 1:
I've found no rank differences between the World/etc versions with the Japan version (though oldschool Raiden experts might want to correct me here) but the non-Japan versions loop in a Batsugun-esque manner (loop 2 starts at stage 2, loop 3 starts at stage 3, and so on...)

Notes:
Zakk reports that RFJ US Single Board and RFJ US have different timings for Miclus retrieval (Single Board's is 2 seconds.) I can't test the rank speed differences to see if Single Board has the same speed of the Asian versions, because US Single Board doesn't fucking work in MAME despite being listed as "imperfect" and not "not working"

Problem Versions:
RF2/RFJ 2000 versions: should be ineligible. piss easy, and there's no rank to speak of.

VP1 Old Version: should be ineligible. weapon system is horrible as you get only 10 shots per weapon and you're stuck with the narrow machine gun shot for all of the game. i have yet to find anyone who can find this fun.

BONUS CONTENT
Anyone not willing to wait the 6-10 minutes it takes to get Seibu SPI games to boot, I'll have NVRAM files and JP1 switch settings zipped for MAMEPlus .116. I'll also have some for WolfMAME .103, but you can't play Raiden Fighters 2 there.
