Best Japanese Supergun?

Post by DreamerNL »

Since I can't buy a cab for a couple of years, I'm off to buy a jpn supergun.

What is the best jpn supergun at the moment? I love the looks of the boardmaster...but have heard the video encoder used isn't all that good. I have a CRT it's going to be connected to, is there also a way to display the pcb on a lcd?

Moved to Hardware.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

RGB on a CRT is the only way to fly.
Sigma's are the best, Raijin or AV depending on your preference.

thanks, I think i'll get an AV7000 then, don't have much room for the large SG's.

BTW, the only way to get a SG to display pcb on a lcd is for it to have component right?

Depends on what inputs the LCD monitor/TV will accept.

You could get either JROK RGB to NTSC/PAL encoder:

JROK RGB to RCA Composite Video & S-Video (old version)

or the latest version...

JROK RGB to Component Video + S-Video + Composite Video outputs (newest version)

An LCD TV in Europe will obviously have an RGB scart input besides composite and s-video. It's component that may or may not be present.

Yep. My SG runs on both the LCD's in our house, but it's screaming out for a CRT.

SG on an LCD is comparibale to running MAME on PC monitor.

You can play a Sigma AV7000 on anything that takes Composite, Svideo, or RGB input... it will be a 15khz signal though. None of the Sigma hardware that I know of supports 31khz, and I'm pretty sure most 31khz arcade hardware only supports 31khz (right?) so Naomi & GNet are out.

Also be warned, the Sigma AV7000 & accompanying 9000TB are well heavy. They will cost over 11,000 yen to ship to Europe from Japan. You need to be ready to spend about $500 USD to have someone get you a new set, with a harness. RGB/S-Video cables are seperate as well. Used sets are a bit cheaper, but not by a lot.

VGI can hook you up with a Euro wired RGB Scart by the way. Japanese lead is wired differently.

NAOMI does both (dip switches control frequency).

EDIT:
Forgot to mention that G-Net runs low-rez fine, too. Trust me, I own it and run it that way :D

Taito G-Net motherboard outputs at 15.7 kHz and doesn't even have a 31 kHz option in the first place... ^_~
