funny, just when I thought I was doing a favor to everyone by choosing the game with the shortest stages and the only one with a score system different than survival... And all I hear is complain.
The only redeeming part is that I'm absolutely certain that any other choice would've gather the same ratio of naysayers. That's how internet works.

Yep. That's exactly right. Especially since after screwing around with Salamander 2 last night I'm pretty sure I found an infinite milking point in stage 4 (maybe 5?).Turrican wrote:The only redeeming part is that I'm absolutely certain that any other choice would've gather the same ratio of naysayers. Part of the reason I chose Twinbee Yahho is because I have the PSX port, but now there is an argument over that. I'm hoping the home version will be allowed of Twinbee since, while I can MAME it, I rather not use MAME if I don't have to. I might have voted Salamander 2 or Gokujo if I had those, but I do like Yahho quite a bit. I ordered the Parodius Deluxe Pack from Japangamestock, but they were on vaction and the date they got back was cutting it too close.
Salamander 2 doesn't run well on MAME on my comp. It seems to play slightly slow and the sound is off. If I had the pack, I might I voted for it, though.

It only runs a little slow for me and only when I'm in deep space. If it's a part of the game with walls on the sides of the screen then it runs fine.BrianC wrote:Salamander 2 doesn't run well on MAME on my comp. It seems to play slightly slow and the sound is off. I only have the vaguest of notions as to how the scoring works in Twinbee, but it's a vert so I like it better then all of the rest of Konami's stuff.

It's the same with me for Salamander 2, but I still rather play it at normal speed all the time.Pirate1019 wrote:It only runs a little slow for me and only when I'm in deep space. Parodius has the exact same scoring system.Turrican wrote:funny, just when I thought I was doing a favor to everyone by choosing the game with the shortest stages and the only one with a score system different than survival... And all I hear is complain.

On a superficial view, yes. But bells are easier to get in parodius and far more sparse. So, in the end you get two different kind of gameplay, because in twinbee more often than not you have to put yourself into messy situations just to get those damn bells.Zebra Airforce wrote:Parodius has the exact same scoring system.Turrican wrote:funny, just when I thought I was doing a favor to everyone by choosing the game with the shortest stages and the only one with a score system different than survival... Kind of figured. Just didn't know. I wasn't good enough to screw around and find out (since the damn thing shot out tons of fast moving crap).shoe-sama wrote:The bosses time outRyanDG wrote:Especially since after screwing around with Salamander 2 last night I'm pretty sure I found an infinite milking point in stage 4 (maybe 5?). ;)

I didn't think Sexy had a second loop but instead a Special stage that can only be reached if all missions are completed.
Edit: fixed a typo.

Playing Bioshock is washing myself from all this Twinbee. Invigorating.
Also, Twinbee influenced my avatar change. If we get any good game this year (not likely, especially for Seibu Week) I'll change it back.

Personally, I dont think ANY of the games on that list would really be all that great to do this with.
Playing this, is reminding me of WHY I stopped playing Konami shmups.
Oh, it seemed interesting, sorta, through the 1st stage.
Then I got to stage 2. With the you-also-have-to-scroll-left-and-right thing, which is SO damn annoying. And at least 3 times I've died without knowing WHAT killed me. Been a LONG time since I've had a shmup do that to me, traditional OR bullet-hell.
I probably wont have a score posted for this one till Friday. This game is just that damn irritating.

I have no problem with this game at all. While the gravity thing may seem cheap, it's still possible, and not by random, to get through without a scratch. Same deal with the auto scroll thing. I also feel this mixes the game up and offers something different from many other shmups.
However, I feel the process for choosing the games should be done differently. I have no idea how Gradius III got chosen over Xexex or Gradius II. Four Gradius style games is a bit redundant, even if one of them does have a different power up system. Something needs to be done about the disparity between old school and new school and console games too.
