Turbo Force is cool because it can be played by 3 players at the same time.

Not that this would be useful on the STGT, heh :)

Also, if I remember correctly, it only uses ONE button. And it's not like Mars Matrix where you have some cool gimmick with one button. You just SHOOT. No bomb, no reflex shield, no sword, no ground shot, no 6-weapons configuration, no options switch, NOTHING. You just DODGE AND SHOOT.

Nothing could be more straightforward than this :)

OK so Turbo Force has:

- Cars instead of ships
- 3 players simultanious play
- All the worst aspects of Psikyo games

Yeah, this game is awesome.

(There is no sarcasm in this post)

(Really, there isnt)

It's a bit like that theory that an alien visitation + breeding is the best explanation of how modern humans emerged from lesser species.

DJI: Please put Gunbird 2 under Seibu week. Or famous manic week. Whichever seems best.

Rob has a weird health condition in which the fast bullets commonly seen in Seibu games or second loops of Psikyo games give him acid reflux.

Not kidding. I think it's a variant of motion sickness.

I want to see what would win in a vote between Gunbird 2, Battle Garegga, and Giga Wing. Having Cave in famous manic week would likely make the outcome obvious at the start. It's less obvious what would win between these three.

Probably Garegga. But that's a game where expert knowledge makes a HUGE difference. Very uneven competition, I'm afraid. So I'm not sure that's the best shortlist.

Giga Wing would definitely lose if Mars Matrix is also on the list, so please game selectors pick one or the other. Thanks! 8)

Gunbird 2 would place third but it deserves to be on the list anyways.

Not having Cave in famous manic week wouldn't make any sense, because Cave games are probably the most famous manics. I don't think it would make the outcome that obvious anyway, especially if we play Progear in 2nd place week.

If we play Progear in the 2nd place week, then Cave is disqualified for manic week.

Also, I wasn't saying that I don't want Cave for manic week. I agree that it's a natural choice if Progear hasn't already been played. I was just saying that I'm interested in what would win among the non-Cave heavy weights.

Take it up with the people who thought "famous manic week" was a good idea.

It is pretty poor that out of five weeks two will be probably be dedicated to developers that were featured last tournament while there are still more than worthwhile developers with multiple good games that have been skipped over again (Capcom, Taito, Irem, etc.).

I really hope we won't play Progear. I want to play Darius Gaiden in 2nd place week ! So, we could play a Cave manic shooter in famous manics week !

For the hidden gem week, I also think about Thunder Dragon 2 and R-Type Leo...Oh boy, life is full of important choices....

Yeah, then we could play really old games in Konami week, 2nd place week, hidden gem week (what else is hidden but old stuff?), and possibly Seibu week (if Raiden is chosen). Great idea.

And what emulated Cave game is better than Progear anyway :?:

I'm NOT saying that I'll be voting for Progear. That's up to my team.

Does it also make him forget which games were made by which company? -_^ Or is Seibu involved with Gunbird2 in some way I'm totally unaware of.

It'd probably be quite funny seeing a 100+ entry high score table almost completely full of Golden Bat scores.

With a Bornnam (ABC) score parked in 1st.

So basically Raizing games have poor ship selections. And you figure you'd be first. Ha.

Golden Bat = easy mode.
Bornnam = higher scoring (if played properly, dependent on reaching last stage).

Of course Raizing games have poor ship balance. That's one of the tradeoffs of having lots of selectable ships. Score isn't always perfectly balanced and equal between all the ships, but then again, it's not always possible to give every ship equal scoring opportunities when they all vary massively with regards to weapons.

Some ships will have an easier time of hitting all the scoring targets than others because of this. This point holds true across all Raizing that have large ship selections (with the exception of Bakraid, where weapons are redundant because of the bombing and suiciding that you do, and Shippu Mahou where you're forced to not attack at all in many spots).

For someone who played Batrider intensively for a week in last year's tournament, I would have figured you would have realised that by now.

From what I've seen of this, there's like 2-3 usable ships, and the rest suck. But, I've not played it much.

Basically what it boils down to, in order of effectiveness:

Slave
Ixion
Judge Spear

Everything else is either too shitty(all ships not mentioned in this post), too slow(Raiden MK II/B), or its specialty nerfed/marginalized to the point of being useless (Miclus/Fairy).

Nevertheless, it is one more ship that's useful than the amount of grossly imbalanced or useful ships in Battle Garegga (Gain/GB) and Batrider (Carpet/Strawman).

I think Batrider has more viable ships in its huge roster than Raiden Fighters Jet. As said, Jet only has about 3 decent ships. In Batrider there are many more ships than can be used for a good team, although thats partially due to the fact that Mahou and Garegga ships eventually HAVE to be used in the team to get higher scores, and this gives plenty of room for trying out various ship combinations.

It has a ship that's slower than the one in Raiden.
Plus your shot powers down.
And you've got no bombs.
YAY

Everyone needs to play this game.
Played it just a minute a go... dear lord no! :(

Seriously I did not think the Arcade version of B-Wings had a contender for being the worst Shmup I've played but now it does, shame.

Talking about the ship balancing issue, it's just like beat-em-up's I suppose. The more chaarcters you have in the fighting game the more likely they are to be unorignal or unbalanced. (I am looking at the later mortal kombats and street fighter alpha's here)

Saying that though I feel that APB carries of it roaster reasonbly well and although when I play RFJ I do like using the Raiden Mk.2 for the nostolgic value (and that sound when you let off a bomb) normaly I just end up using Judgement Spear again anyway because it clears the screen quicker. With APB I am confindent to put the choice on "RANDOM" because I know I will at leat get two usable ships even with it big roaster.

I agree. I would like to of seen some R-Type or 1940 series games in this trouney this year but it's not to be sadly.
