Salamander 2, Xexex Jpn Version, Thunder Cross II, Gradius II, Twinbee (1), Twinbee Yahho, Sexy Parodius, Gradius III, Detana Twinbee, Ajax, Lightning Fighters/Trigon, Salamander 1,
First, how many games are being allowed on the list per week? Wasn't it five last time? If that is not being increased some of these have to go (obviously, and many for reasons other than lack of space). I think five was a good number. Essential:

-Gradius -- agreed with that choice
-Parodius -- same as above
-Twinbee -- I don't really care, but it would probably be best to pick one of the newer ones. one and no one should actually vote for it.
-Xexex -- awesome game, no doubt their best non-series shooter
-Salamander -- 2, I guess. I had the bios in the folder, never worked. But anything is better than Salamander 1.

And for sure Thunder Cross 2 is way too easy. It would be like playing Blazing Star except without any attempt at a scoring system.

I'm all for Outzone or VV! Maybe we can force one of them into Hidden gem week?

It's not how much you play, it's how well you can buckle down and realize what you need to learn as well as how quickly you can correct and prevent the mistakes you are making. ; )
There's no doubt that being quick in intelligence makes a difference here, but it is equally obvious that having more time to play makes a difference. Did you get your Progear score in a week's time?

Yeah, I am pretty sure my performance this year will not be as good as last year, mainly because this year I have less free time than I had last year.

Unless I manage to win the lottery in the next weeks... then I'll be the champion

OK whet though all 10 pages of this thread and this is what all you guys have suggested so far... I think!

One Vote = One Point!

Code: Select all

[**Konami Week**]
Sexy Parodius (4)
Thunder Cross II (4) <arcade>
Twinbee Yahho (3)
Gradius III <arcade> (2)
Xexex, Life Force <jpn arcade> (2)
Salamander 2 (2)
Space Manbow (1)
Gradius II (1)
Trigon (1)
Gradius (1) <arcade>
Detana Twinbee (1)
Parodius Da! (1)
Gokujyou Parodius (1)

[**Seibu Kaihatsu Week**]
Viper Phase 1 (4)
Raiden Fighters 2 (3)
Raiden (3)
Raiden Fighters (2)
Raiden Fighters Jet (2)

[**Hidden Gem Week**]
Omega Fighter (4)
Dragon Breed (2)
Shooting Game Paradise (2)
Hyper Duel (1)
Rabio Lepus (1)
Rapid Hero (1)
Grid Seeker (1)
Cyvern (1) (hidden enough?)
Rayforce (1) (hidden enough?)

[**Famous Manics Week**]
Battle Garegga (3)
DoDonPachi (2)
Amoured Police Batraider (1)
Guwange (1)
Batsugun (1)
Gigawing (1)

[**In Limbo!**]
(Post again to tell me if you want this included in another week i.e. hidden gems!)
Super Spacefortress Macross II (2)
Raystorm (2) (not hidden really?)
Brave Blade (2)
G-Draius (2) (not hidden really?)
Gemini Wing (2)

[**Binned!**]
Time Pilot <arcade> (infinate point explot!)
Personaly I would like to see a game called Rabio Lepus (that's the Japanese version of Rabbit Punch in case you are wondering...) on the hidden gem week as I have a soft spot for it.

p.s: I will point out any "issues" with games if I find any.

edit: This post will be updated again when more people post on this thread...

Konami week with G-Darius, Gemini Wing, Brave Blade, Raystorm and Super Spacefortress Macross II would be the best.

Rabio Lepus is a good option IMO.

Thanks I thought so to... :D

Was going to mention Boogie Wings and although I love the game to peices it not exactly tourney materal as it's a little to easy (even by my standards) and is more about survival than actual point scoring.

Twiddle made mention of Twinbee Yahho earlier in the thread. I'm not sure if voting for multiple games is allowed, but I also made mention of Twinbee Yahho. Also, Konami week was what won. I feel the votes of non-Konami games shouldn't be counted for that week.

For Seibu week, my top choice is Viper Phase 1, though any of the Raiden Fighters would be fine too.

For hidden gem week, I wouldn't mind doing Grid Seeker or Omega Fighter. If it counts, I wouldn't mind doing Rayforce either.

You can add one point for Thunder Cross II for the Konami Week., and one point for Raiden too.

I'm glad to see you took my advices for the hidden gem Week !

I wish it was Omega Fighter and /or Dragon breed..Those games are so brilliant.

Thanks for summarizing this thread! But the vote count means nothing since there will be a seperate official voting thread before the contest start (see Edge's comments in the registration thread).

What I'd like to see on the vote is:
Konami Week: Sexy Paridous
Seibu Week: Viper Phase 1
Hidden Gem Week: Shooting Game Paradise
Famous Manic Week: Dodonpachi

A bit sad there is no place to fit in a Raizing game.

If you're talking about Game Tengoku (Game Paradise), yes though there graphic problems. Stays playable.

If we're posting suggestions, I'd like to see Gokujyou Parodius in Konami week and Viper Phase 1 in Seibu week.

Also, Cyvern in Hidden Gem would be nice. I know, not *that* hidden. Certainly underplayed tho, and might actually be a bit fun (beats last years Air Gallet :x )

Yeah, of course. It's still helpful to get better in the most efficient way with the time you have. : D
professor ganson wrote:Did you get your Progear score in a week's time?
It was a couple of weeks atleast. I have a screenshot of me having it running in Kawaks for the first time with a timestamp of Jan 3rd, 2005, and then another picture dated Jan 4th, 2005 with a score of 19,155,020 stage2-1. My high has a timestamp of Jan 30th, 2005 (78,798,150 stage2-4). I don't remember how much I played during that time (it's been a while), but I think most of my play time was during the second half of the month.

I noticed Brave Blade is in the list. I think that game might be a little too CPU intensive for some people?

It'd be cool to watch people play a week's worth of Rabio Lepus to see where they get with it.

Yeah, I was just sympathetic with Dave_K's point because I know I would do better if this tournament took place during the summer rather than the Fall when I'll be crazy busy.

Also, I've always been best at solving problems without time pressures. Playing chess with me is a bore because I take so long. And the problems I take on in my work are usually problems that I think about for several years. Having just 1 week to figure out a game isn't my preferred style.

Cheers brainC for pointing out those mistakes. That will teach me not to make lists while cooking tea heh. Anyway it's been sorted out now. Stuff that I do not know were to put on the lists are in the "in limbo" section.

Oh and to my knowlage I don't think this is offical as of yet. I've just been asked nicely to keep track of it all to measure people's responses to each game.

Do we really need two voting threads? There are two people listed as a game selection "committee." That is more than enough to put together a more than adequate list. If you just want to gauge the popularity of the games there is the top 25 list (check page 2 for a complete list). I really don't want to have to keep checking this every week and offering comments in case a few bored people suggest ridiculous crap. In the end it is you guys who choose what is on the list. This is not hidden gem week, this is Konami week. Easy.

Good rules to select games by:
-choose the games they are best known for
-choose the games with the best scoring systems or will present a good challenge

Konami: Twinbee Yahho
Hidden Gem: Game Tengoku (or Shooting Game Paradise or whatever)

The other lists I have no preferance on and would be fine with anything listed so far =)

I'm going to make everyone hate me and say I'd love to see a CAVE game for famous manic week though -_^

Looking at the first post, I'd like to note that Eliminate Down has infinite milking for 2nd and 4th bosses. 6th boss too, but you have to be present to dodge bullets for that. 2nd and 4th you can just stay in one place and milk using the backshot.

Not that anyone would be crazy enough to choose this game lol

TURBO FORCE

It has a ship that's slower than the one in Raiden.
Plus your shot powers down.
And you've got no bombs.
YAY

Everyone needs to play this game.
