any game that you can slay a boss without even being forced to dodge anything is a game with some serious design flaws.
It would've been great if all of the bosses had some chaining tricks like the first boss does (I think the last five have some but to a much lesser degree), but do you seriously think the bosses are enough of a focus in this game to call their easiness "serious" design flaws? Personally, if they were any longer they would get in the way of what I enjoy about the game: stage chaining. Which bosses are you referring to? The first few forms of the final boss are pretty tricky for me. Stage 4 boss also takes a life from me every now and then.

I mean, the same argument can be used for the stages too ("you don't have to dodge anything since there is a shield" which I think is ignoring the game design).

We need Raystorm or something in one of those weeks.

Just so everyone can get killed by random homing lasers and sniper bullets.

No, they'd still be up at super-play too. Can't say I like the idea of people copying my babies like that. I raise them all on my own. :(

Is Rob the only who can counter-stop Mars Matrix? (If he indeed can, I am not even sure).

Because, you know, Pelé Shooting Team may get someone who also have done it.

Wait a minute, how is famous manic week going to go? If you can't include a game by the same developer twice and most of the famous manic developers (that are MAME available) are appearing in the second-place week... What does that leave for "famous manics"? Besides Batsugun and Takumi games.
Only a game PICKED will be considered. If, say, we get to play Progear in the 2nd place week, any game other than cave games could be played. So it's not much of a problem.

What's the shortlist?

How so? For space on the hard drive maybe, but to my knowledge all of the probable choices are emulated alright on MameoX. My friend has an X box with mame and we have almost identical ROM lists.

Here are my proposals:

Konami Week
Gradius
Parodius
Thunder Cross II

Seibu Kaihatsu Week
Raiden. Of course !

'06 2nd Place Week
DECIDED

Hidden Gem Week

If you're looking for wonderful but not well-known games :

-Dragon Breed
-Omega Fighter
-Hyper Duel
-Darius Gaiden (OK, it's a famous Darius game, but as far as I'm concerned, it's also the best)

Famous Manic Week

-DoDonPachi
-Guwange
-Battle Garegga
-Batsugun
-Gigawing

and now, wait and see...

Darius Gaiden is going to be in second place week. As for the second part, no. Guwange was already played last year.

I hope Vasara appearing in second place week means we won't see a Vasara in hidden gem week again. Those games suck.

Would that count as a bad computer? I have 512mb of ram and probably 1/3 of it is burnt out. Most Mame Roms work fine on my computer but Brave Blade just drowns itself in it's shitty 3D visuals.

Well, that's what I meant. "In case of counter-stop" type thing. Which I can't even come CLOSE to doing (mainly because I can't chain stage 3 for shit).
Rob wrote:It would've been great if all of the bosses had some chaining tricks like the first boss does (I think the last five have some but to a much lesser degree)
You're right, that WOULD be really cool.
Rob wrote: but do you seriously think the bosses are enough of a focus in this game to call their easiness "serious" design flaws? Actually... You're right =D I concede this point. Now, as for how I feel about the bosses. The first 3 bosses are disgustingly cake-walk. Especially the crab. The crab doesn't even get to shoot anything you have to dodge once you know when to shield him. The fourth is definitely the first step up in difficulty (at least the little red fighter plane is), but even still, you only really have to dodge that first pattern, which doesn't exactly take any skill. The fifth boss is even easier than the fighter plane. What a letdown. As for stage 6, that initial guardian form (the pancake of doom) is REALLY quite difficult. I one-life him VERY inconsistantly, he usually kills me. The next 3 forms are really wussy. The flower isn't TOO bad, and its bullet pattern IS fun to dodge at least =D But still... Final boss material? I dunno...
Rob wrote:I mean, the same argument can be used for the stages too ("you don't have to dodge anything since there is a shield" which I think is ignoring the game design).
Not true at all. Even using the shield, if you want to chain, you're GOING to be weaving through some messes here and there. Especially the green fighter spam at the end of stage 4.

I think what they should have done is just make the bosses transition into their next patterns faster so that you have to dodge instead of being able to recharge your shield while the boss tries to figure out what he's doing. That third boss seriously doesn't get to fire nearly enough. When he finally DOES start spraying some evil, you just get to sopp it up and throw it in his face for the win.

Don't get me wrong, I love Mars Matrix. I have complaints about ALL of my favorite shooters.
