Suppose if Psikyo did release Gunbird 3 PCB instead of DB...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Suppose if Psikyo Amusement Works did release a third sequel to their Gunbird franchise by the name of Gunbird 3 (instead of Dragon Blaze PCB), would it have the similiar gameplay mechanics and scoring as their earlier arcade shmup PCB, Strikers 1999/Strikers 1945 III? (One might recall that Gunbird 2 PCB had borrowed Strikers II PCB's power-up mechanics and scoring system.)

And would Psikyo had used the Strikers III gameplay mechanics setup or forged an entirely all-new gameplay/power-up mechanics to further enhance Gunbird third arcade shmup outing to new heights?

I wonder if Psikyo had plans do to such Gunbird 3 PCB sequel in the first place...it would have been interesting to see what new characters and power-ups that could be whipped up into play...it's been said that the "third time's the charm". ^_~

Of course, this is just a hypothetical question/speculation since Psikyo's swan song arcade shmup title wasn't Gunbird 3 but rather Dragon Blaze -- perhaps in a parallel universe, does Gunbird 3 PCB exist and it plays very well for what it is..... ^_~

We're in another dimension sans Gunbird 3 but rather Dragon Blaze exists...what can we do to get back to that correct parallel dimension timeframe in which "it does exist"? Lol.....^_~

Marion was a great character, and I'm sure most Japanese agree. If Moss can resurrect Seibu's stuff after years, and if we're gonna get more Bydo (strategic) genocide, I don't see why Xnauts or someone else (Starfish!!) couldn't take the chance to develop a third Gunbird.

Err, is it me or there's a lot of Psikyo-related discussion around recently?

I'm sure in the hands of such creative and talented game developers, could such a third serving of classic Gunbird gameplay be possible (like how SNK/Playmore was able to carry the Metal Slug torch after Nazca's intial foray of setting up the classic MS universe)... ^_~

I'm curious as to what Psikyo could have whipped up for crazy over-arching storylines with new characters plus bringing back some old favorites (like that featured in the Gunbird 2 PCB offering). I like how Marion was given that super sexy "older" look in the 2nd PCB iteration...them 'magic potions' must be some pretty powerful & potent stuff, hmmm? ^_~

What happened to Psikyo programmers after the team was disbanded?

Whats wrong with that? I'm tired of talking about Cave.

Methinks that Gunbird 3 would feel similar to Strikers III plus that one small refinement that they always include.

Now don't - you knock PCE's thread style.
A GB3 PCB would be worthwhile.
If ya don't think so you're in denial.
Though i can admit the idea is wild.

PC Engine Fan X's posts are always so full of enthusiasm. I like it.

As much as I would like Psikyo to have made Gunbird 3, Dragon Blaze is the last game I would have it made at the expense of. DB has a unique art style which enabled them to do something a little different. While the close range attacks are similar I don't think Gunbird 3 could pull off something as unique. I also really like the darker art style.

Sengoku Ace 3 etc. etc.

I'm wondering this too. I'm also wondering what happened to most of Capcom's shmup programmers.

If there's one thing guaranteed it's that the stage six boss will be a total pain in the ass.

Absolutely nothing wrong - I just wondered why all of a sudden. Just nostalgia effect, or perhaps a collective sense of guilt for bashing them more than they ever deserved?

Agreed. Dragon Blaze is probably my favorite Psikyo shooter. It's a wonderful combination of slow moving bullets (ala modern manics) and fast Psikyo stuff. Plus you're a dragon rider. Coolness factor galor just right there. The difficulty feels just right too (though I haven't played the game much, so I could be singing a different tune later as far as that goes).

I'm pretty sure it started because somebody resurrected the Psikyo > Cave thread and everybody felt that their opinion mattered...again.

It's a breath of fresh air if you ask me. As soon as STGT starts we'll hear lots of "Why haven't we played a Cave game yet?" and "Why aren't any Raizing games in this week's selection?"

Sounds intriguing to play such 4D-based games...and do you play them with such 4D gaming controllers as well? Your deminsion would seem like a such a cool place to visit...sign me up! ^_~

Well - the first part was sarcastic. The 2nd I was serious about.
