Raiden Fighters Jet > DoDonPachi's equal/better
Hi,
I realize different people tend to have different preferences, but I was wondering why DoDonPachi is held in such high regard here while Raiden Fighters Jet apparently not so much...
Not that I don't think DDP doesn't deserve it..

Not true, most people who know the game think very highly of RFJ. It's just that fewer people play it than Dodonpachi.PooshhMao wrote:I was wondering why DoDonPachi is held in such high regard here while Raiden Fighters Jet apparently not so much...
The RFJ board is still one of the most expensive non-Cave PCBs - testament to it's enduring popularity.
Personally I think RFJ is better than DDP, but DDP is also one of my least favorite Cave games. There's other Cave games that I think are better than RFJ.

I remember seeing Raiden 2 for the first time. I was quite impressed, but then when RF appeared in the arcade it seemed like the same game but with a much less interesting feel, a poor soundtrack and lots of ships and new features that didn't add much to the game. RFJ to me is very similar, with the added benefit of one of the shittest soundtracks ever (doesn't that game even have a pumping cheese tune on the BIOS update?) I'm sure not everyone would agree with this but I imagine even some serious Seibu fans must be slightly bored by a game so similar to it's predecessors. Isn't RF2 generally considered the best of the series?
DDP blew me away when I first played it. The bold colours, the charm, the cheesy-without-being-nauseating soundtrack, the scoring system etc - everything in this game feels so right. DDP has been bettered since but it puts a smile on my face every time I play it.

i prefer RFJ to DDP (im genaraly not so big fan of the DDP games)
RFJ has some smald design problems
the sky stages
they are to fast the bulltes diffikult to see.
i would prefer a RFJ with fixed stages
withoutall air stages inc real phase 1
the came has a beutifull ice stage ,
but i never see it because i join the damm phase 1

I thought the soundtrack of the series was better than DDP's, really
no component of the scoring system doesn't require an atrociously OCD amount of attention either, you can recover from a non-death related scoring fuckup (not on level 1) pretty well in comparison to DDP
the ship selection is horribly broken and rigged in favor of three ships in RFJ though

RF/RF2 don't seem to take much skill to me, they look like they're just another of those "memorizers" ^_^ ~ Gameplay wise, DDP seems far superior to me.
although RF2 looks fun cause of the funky soundtrack.
is RF2 eligible for STGT seibu week ? I heard it was kind of hard to emulate (need big comp).

I mean the game looks easy to complete when you've memorized it. What's so funny ? Maybe I'm wrong, I never played RF anyway, just watched some videos. I bet it's the word "memorizer" ^_^ I think I heard that in some stupid review or something, I thought it was funny.
I think this term describes pretty well a lot of shmups though. I played Pulstar and learned to 1LC it for instance : this game is really really easy once you have memorized it. Hence I'd laugh at it calling it a "memorizer" ~ But I still like it for other reasons.

There is not a single Raiden related game that does not require great skill. Even Raiden III is hard to 1cc if you play it like a man ^__^

This is where Prometheus starts talking about improvisation in Cave games that other games don't have.
WELCOME TO 90% OF MODERN SHOOTERS.DDP is still very hard to execute even when you have memorized it.

ok ok maybe i'm wrong ^^;; I don't know, it just looked easy when I saw that video. Maybe I'll give it a try in STGT if RF2 is chosen and see for myself.circuitface wrote:QUOTED. FIVE. I wasn't impressed with RFJ at all. I actually played all of them(RF,RF2,RFJ), and I only kept RF2, because I liked it best. They are basically the same game. I mean, they even look practically identical. But overall, they don't seem to really have any pacing, if that makes sense. I feel like i'm just flying over and shooting things instead of actually going into the enemy bases and taking them on. I know that's going to be hard to understand, because i'm not explaining it well, but that's my main problem. They do have lovely graphics though.
Overall though, I find them to be decently fun, and a better version of Strikers.
It is by no means better than DDP, or it's equal, in my eyes.
s/m

You are forgiven. Now go play RF2 after buying me tacos. U__UPROMETHEUS wrote:ok ok maybe i'm wrong ^^;; I don't know, it just looked easy when I saw that video.
