There was gonna be an Xbox one?

Bah, stupid assorted publishers/developers not wantiing to DO things with this genre on consoles....

"Oh, but it doesnt sell!!!"

Gee, I wonder why.... MAYBE BECAUSE IT'S HARDLY THERE?!?!?

*grumble grumble*

There, now that that's out of my system for the night......

I *did* get the ORIGINAL Raiden to work.

Whee, plays like what Im used to from 3, but no snail-ship!!! I miss the green laser from 3, though.

And one more question: What shmups, besides Raiden, did Seibu make? I havent really found much..... is this basically just gonna be "Raiden Week"? Not that that's a bad thing, mind you, IF these roms can be made to work.....

*Edit*

Also got Stinger working. But that's it. Edit again: And what in the heck??? Yeeeessss, odd game here......

Creating the forums can be done in about 10 minutes. However, to keep people out (IE, make the private) you would have to make a group for each forum, each forum hidden, and add each member to the group. It's not hard, but takes some time. It's a couple hours work. So yeah, I wouldn't ask anyone to go out of their way, but I think it' a good idea.
But, yeah, if that's not going to happen how about one on your board for our team, GP?
Yeah, I will most likely be doing that. ;)

EDIT: Now that RF Jet (is this the latest one in MAME)? is MAME'ed, I'm hoping it gets picked. It's something I've been meaning to try for ages. Now, the perfect excuse.

RF Jet has been working since .103. .106 is the last version where Seibu SPI emulation actually runs at a decent speed on an older computer. You can still get old versions of MAME, WolfMAME at least.

As of .112 Raiden Fighter 2 works.

No worries about computer speed on my end; Im running a high-end dual core here with a nice graphics card, so at least THAT is covered.....

No, right now, just me arguing with MAME (for the Seibu stuff), and trying to FIND Konami's stuff.

Particularly since I just realized I've not actually played the original ARCADE version of Gradius..... that's almost a sin right there..... gotta find that.....

Thanks for the tip, though; Finding those versions of MAME shouldnt be an issue at all.

Getting them to WORK RIGHT and do what I want them to..... lol, always an issue :P

Will multi-loop scores from Konami games be allowed, or are we going to keep 1-loop only scores?

I hope one of the Twin Bee games is selected, those games need more love.

and for Seibu... Viper Phase One , please :)

I'm stuck playing with MAMEoX and cannot upgrade, so, sadly, I'm expecting to sit Seibu week out. Though, I suppose a console game might get selected.

I think we should count multi-loop scores as I think this is the skill which is asked for in the Gradius series for example. And also limiting the scores to one loop asks for the best suicide strategy to maximize your score. But I am trying to avoid too easy multiple looping games. So that the best players won't need to play 4 hours+ for one run. (excluding tviks here)

ok
just for the record, I agree we should accept multi-loop scores :) Not that would make much of a difference to me, as the only Konami shmup I can multi-loop is Gradius 1 :)

Is there a certain BIOS you need or something, because I have Raiden Fighters 2 (rdft2) in my roms folder, but MAME32 .117 won't recognize that it's there.

If it helps any I'm using Mameplus.

Raiden Fighters? You probably don't have the parent rom. You're looking for the file rdft. if you have both files then you will be able to play Raiden Fighters and Raiden Fighters (Japan set 2).

Yeah. I'm pretty sure the bug is that you can stay at a certain level for as long as you want. You just don't kill the boss. It's sort of like the Psikyo power-down technique. You just keep killing the popcorn enemies and ignore the boss. I could be wrong though.

lol that's why we play by stage

And penalize or reject scores that obviously milked for mass extends to increase their stage survival ability.

Of course it just turns into a missile dodging fest but lol

Suggestion/Q "famous" manic week:

The question first. Were there any tied scores last tournament? What is the policy for that? Mars Matrix should not be overlooked for its counter stopping. Yeah, that is where I was going with this. I don't think this would be an issue at all. And in the extreme unlikeliness of a tie it would be easy to set up a tiebreaker (furthest stage reached, experience, etc.).

I don't know how famous is being judged, but the game always places well in the top 25 and a little higher than Giga Wing (also popular around here, by all means include both). I'm sure there will probably be a second Raizing and Psikyo (maybe Cave?) game, so Takumi is obviously due. My suggestion is Mars Matrix.

8)

Wait a minute, how is famous manic week going to go? If you can't include a game by the same developer twice and most of the famous manic developers (that are MAME available) are appearing in the second-place week... What does that leave for "famous manics"? Besides Batsugun and Takumi games.

^Exactly!!

It is sooo good. It deserves the spotlight, like other awesome games did (Armed Police Batrider, Dragon Blaze, even Guwange). Who can sit idly by while more crappy cave games take up quality time?

Don't assume Rob is (only) scheming. If it was only about winning, why would he have invited me to be on his team?

I had to post that since I spoke out against it last year because of the counter-stopping (can the damage be undone??). Playing the arcade version now I realize it is not a problem, so it should definitely appear as an option since it is one of the few eligible famous manic shooters. I'm almost 100% certain it would not get picked, but oh well.

You can get all the poll results from this post:

http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... 67&start=0

---------------------

Also, as long as we're just yelling out what games we want to play for manic week, I say Bakraid

EDIT: Actually, make that for hidden gem week seeing as how nobody plays it and every other game in hidden gem week will be shite.

Don't get me wrong, I love Mars Matrix and all, but aside from the counter-stop issue (which can be fixed by going off exp), any game that you can slay a boss without even being forced to dodge anything is a game with some serious design flaws. The only "challenge" in that game (aside from counter-stop... Damn stage 3 chaining), is the Stage 5 Guardian boss thing. The pancake of doom if you know what I mean.

lol the stage 5 boss is easy

I went into that thing with no lives left and almost killed it.

It would've died if I released the button in time for a reflect. Bombs suck... >_>

Anyways yeah you can just kill all of its forms with like 1/2 of your reflect bar, and 2 full reflect bars for last form.
