So why exactly does Cave not want to port anymore?

It doesn't last an hour, maybe 25 minutes. But I get your drift. This is also the funniest thing i've read in quite a while on this forum.. Keep it up.
Btw, its nothing compared to MGS2. Not only do the sequences go on for like 20 minutes AT A TIME. But they don't make any damn sense at all.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

heh
I could have a long rant about this.
Yeah, MGS2 made no sense at all, but at least I could skip those scenes. I got the PC version of MGS2 with a friend, and we both finished the game more or less at the same time, and we were talking with each other trying to make a sense of all that mess. After we talked about it half an hour, we just gave up, as the game obviously has the most fucked up elaborated plot ever.

Quit living in the past. Also, leave comparing ports from that era to AirRaidX. Strider and Ghouls N' Ghosts on Genesis were fine so leave it at that.roker wrote:you missed the point

I think this whole 'the plot is a big mess' idea is brainwashing at it's finest. Either that or I never had a big issue with it. In anycase, MGS2 doesn't begin to get wacky until the end, and the fact there are many loose ends upon completion doesn't help either. Plus, who ever said a little confusion would hurt?Shatterhand wrote:Yeah, MGS2 made no sense at all, but at least I could skip those scenes. gameplay changes can be significant enough to disqualify use of a game's version though

Horridly slow or not, at least they work. Funnily enough I'm not on a proxy at the moment, so it must be affecting certain regions only.Twiddle wrote:i can't blame them when they do put in the effort to using a working one it ends up being horridly slow
Christ, it's boring tonight. Shmups on a standstill, /a/ under attack by a ghostbumping script, and I'm hungover. Think I'll watch something to kill some time.

Wasn't supposed to be derogatory - I'd love to see more of the 'do it right or release nothing' attitude Arika apparently has, but it's unfortunately a rare exception. An appropriately-equipped PC should be able to do arcade resolution, and even one that can't should be able to get close with some combination of pixel doubling and borders if you want pixel-for-pixel. Not that this means you can safely assume PC ports will support it, of course. Similarly, even if the PS2's capable of arcade resolution output, ports don't necessarily offer it; additionally, it's cronky old hardware that may be at full stretch trying to reproduce recent arcade releases.GaijinPunch wrote:Yeah, well, call it what you will. I'm glad there are still at least some people that care about quality.
Even if it can be done, you'll potentially need to plough vast development effort into target hardware that can reproduce a game only after extensive optimization - maybe sometimes enough to make the difference between financially viable and not. I suspect people often underestimate the work of porting from arcade hardware to consoles and PCs, particularly where hardware emulation isn't an option.
For my part, I'm reasonably content so long as a port gets aspect ratio and timing right. I think blur-o-vision's irksome, but not unbearable. Everyone has their personal takes on what's too crap to put up with, though. It's inconceivable to me that anyone could consider 50Hz/60Hz (or 17% permanent slowdown) a trivial quibble, but some aren't fussed. Returning to the Nintendo idiocy grumbling for a sec, this bugs me immensely, since VC releases are apparently a throwback to the bad old days of PAL meaning 50Hz or import. But in a market that's seemingly struggling to support any ports, never mind perfect ones, I do think expecting arcade perfection as the default standard is unrealistic - with that minimum requirement, you're best off to just get the arcade hardware and be done with it.
Perhaps just semantic wrangling on my part, but that sounds like indifference, not elitism - consoles just aren't relevant to their business. No, but they have made it very clear in both their actions, and statements in their financial docs they publish that they are all about the aracdes.Have Cave actually made statements supporting this alleged disdain for the console market,
Much more importantly, Penis Man sounds awfully like some form of superhero. I'm not certain what his powers should be, though.

I have little time to play games. I don't think being critical of them is too much to ask.I do think expecting arcade perfection as the default standard is unrealistic

Add Muchi Muchi Pork to that list. Death Lolita is also likely to remain PCB-only, unless some console deal is struck again. If by some weird chance it's on new hi-res hardware, the chances of a port go up 10 fold.ZeetherKID77 wrote:So this means casual gamers won't have access to great games like Mushihimesama Futari, Pink Sweets, Ketsui, and ESPGaluda II.

Okay, what it means here is I would need more money to buy PCBs.
But currently, I can't even find the money for the Wii... So I guess I would have to sell the PCBs I currently got in order to get the new ones, just like what an acrade is doing.
Well, I guess there is not many people is rich enough to buy PCBs like console games. So that's the way to go.

I don't know a casual gamer that would play those games seriously, let a lone think about making a 50+ dollar purchase of them, even if they were given solid gold copies by big titted chicks who could only communicate via blowjob.ZeetherKID77 wrote:So this means casual gamers won't have access to great games like Mushihimesama Futari, Pink Sweets, Ketsui, and ESPGaluda II.
Fuck you, Cave. FUCK. YOU.
The reason they don't port is because there is no financial incentive for them to port because "casual gamers" aren't going to buy a game in a genre that's become so refined only existing fans of the genre are acclimated enough to survive 5 minutes of their first play. Aside from that, as others have said, I'm sure Cave would be more than happy to license the games to other companies for ports but because the sales of the games that have been ported have been so low, few publishers want to take the time to port something that doesn't have a guaranteed return.
Feedback will set you free.
