Unemulated, Unported, Badly emulated....

Post by Battlesmurf »

Well, this is mainly aimed at Shmups, but I won't mind if a few others sneak in here (but I hope I have enough shooters to keep in in Shmups chat :)

Basically- is there a list somewhere of Shooters that are un-emulated, un-ported, or badly emulated/ported? I want to get a few more pcbs/arcades- and my friends tend to like the stuff they can't get ahold of otherwise.

(I have Ketsui in mind, Plant Harriers, and a few others- but I would like to see what you all have to input :) The draw for arcades for me is more along the lines of "playing a great game I can't get a taste of elsewhere".

Unemulated games are listed here. These two pages also list some unemulated or improperly emulated games.

I do not know of any lists of un-ported or poorly emulated/ported games. You could try looking through MAME Testers for some information on the emulation status of certain games you have in mind.

Fire Shark as well, although a kind person posted the OST so I know what it sounds like (+ reverb). These probably won't be added for a long time, unfortunately.

I had some of these in mind in tracking down. I figure my friends will be drawn to something they can't really play elsewhere, and maybe it'll spark more interest in the things : )

Computer Space isn't emulated, but then, there's no emulation possible. It doesn't use ROM chips.

I believe there's a fairly accurate simulator floating around the internet, though.

Yes, it does, and to make things worse I've never found the arcade OST to download...

I might be pulling this out of my ass, but I think I saw this at Mandarake not long ago. Should I lift it if I see it? Take that w/ a grain of salt... it could've easily been another soundtrack.

I think he was referring to the Raiden Fighters series which, from my last experience, are not fully emulated, although Viper Phase 1 is (well, pretty close as I play the PCB from time to time)

I'd love to play Dogyuun with sound

Mega necrobump, but I just found out about a Nichibutsu game that isn't properly emulated yet and wanted to know if anybody knows anythig about it:

IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

It does work.

Somebody just won the board off eBay for $160 or so, by the way.

I'm almost glad I didn't have all the money together for it, because I tried it out again after in MAME and was reminded how little I like the enemy waves, ship speed, the powerup system, slow fire rate...UPL/NMK games are, for me, either god tier or totally unplayable (or nearly so - Hacha Mecha Fighter is a weird case - not a terrible game but I just have trouble enjoying it when playing the right way - of course, the games I consider "god tier" from them tend to be hampered by odd scoring system choices that can break your enjoyment if you try to play that way - see suiciding your shields in GunNail, fooling around with shooting the stage intro text in Thunder Dragon 2, and point blanking in Omega Fighter - all probably routine for a master player but I find them difficult to pull off, so in a way the games tie your hands on this).

Also, this game brings back some memories. Raiden Fighters Jet not emulated properly?! What madness is this!

I bet the universe's secret joke is that Demoneye-X ^_~ and IGMO are actually properly emulated, and they actually were designed that way. Or, if they were fixed, they would be automagic Top Five Shmups candidates.

Andromeda still not working? Lame, looks impressive for '79 - and is that some sort of scoring system there at the bottom?

EDIT: Oh, it's '81 - vid is mislabelled. Should have known better.

EDIT2: http://flyers.arcade-museum.com/?page=f ... 70&image=1 Yeah, fairly involved there.
