I've been toying with buying a new console for shmups (i.e. a Jap PS2) but after doing some research I've come to the conclusion that I'd be better off buying a supergun (I won't bore you with the reasons why).
I'm not sure if this is important but in case it is: I much prefer to play the newer shmups from say 1995 onwards.
I have a few questions:
(a) What's the best value/performace supergun out there? I don't want cheap but I don't want to break the bank either. Compatibility for most PCBs is a must.
(b) Can I play this through an old Sony 50hz tv and/or my computer lcd screen? I ask because a search reveals lots of issues concerning the speed of the screen you use to play games on.
(c) Are there any other questions I should have asked but didn't?
Thanks.
TS.
What Supergun?
Re: What Supergun?
Generally, the more you pay the better the supergun. You can get simple, home-made ones for $100 or so, or a professional Sigma for $300.Tigershark wrote:(a) What's the best value/performace supergun out there? You'll need a 60Hz RGB compatible TV.(b) Can I play this through an old Sony 50hz tv and/or my computer lcd screen? I ask because a search reveals lots of issues concerning the speed of the screen you use to play games on.
In order to play on an LCD screen you'll need some kind of upscaling device, such as an XRGB. Expensive stuff, and I can hardly recommend playing low res 2D games on an LCD anyway, unless you absolutely love really pixelated graphics.
