Now I know why they omitted those 3D stages from the SNES version of Gradius III:

It doesn't seem like something the SNES couldn't handle.

I seem to have seen this particular effect in use at a certain scene in FFVI...

I don't have audio here at work, but this comment here is ace:

"The Stage 3 boss is ridiculous...I'm honestly getting the message that the aliens WON this round of the Gradius series. That, or the Vic pilots was like 'screw this' and turned back around :D"

Gradius III = hardest shooter ever made.

I hate the 3D stages and I hate pretty much everything else about it too. Still I can't resist it. It's just that the soundtrack is so damn good!

Gradius III's soundtrack keeps luring me to my doom too. ^_^ Great stuff.

Well, tviks, who looped Gradius V 15 times, only made it to the second loop of III. That's saying something.

Gradius 3 arcade has given me my fair share of fits and anguish, the 3-D stage on the other hand is like the game giving you a short break before Moai hell, though I have lost a few lives in the 3-D stage due to fatigue, or trying to be power up greedy.

"Dupon" (Stage 2 theme) is one of my series favourites, I'd certainly give Gradius IV that. Perfect example of the uncomplicatedly upbeat sound I always associate with Konami shooters.

I can only make it to Stage 3 Part 1 of Gradius III. I'm saving it for a particularly masochistic rainy day, I keep telling myself!

Just tried this myself......

.....this game is sadistic and evil.

Just the 1st stage alone, those #(%*-ing walking guns.... Argh!!!

The BOSS of that stage is easy as heck, but the stage itself.... too cramped!

The arcade Gradius III is overly long for an arcade title. I know that tviks and my mate KAC have 1CC'd it though. Its really just a learning/mind-mapping thing. The final stage with its Bosses Revisited and the blacking out screen when you descend into the final section are a bit nasty.

I'm not sure what the programmers were thinking when they designed Stage 3 :? . Its about 15-20mins long and as boring as hell. The stage 3 Boss is a strange one too - you can opt to stay centred and fit in the tiny zig zag beams, or go behind it (in the correct order) and last it out until it disappears.
The other strange bit is of course the Stage 9 Ice Cube rush, where you take your chances hiding behind the cubes in a corner.

At the moment, Im not at all used to playing a game like this with a ship that has such a big hitbox.

The walls dont bug me, but there's plenty of times where I think I can squeak between attacks, but POW, that's a miss right there.......

Actually my record is 3-7, although that was in the asian version. I never quite played the japanese version after I made my first loop speedups only -replay.

This game is truly something special. You think that it's purely impossible but you just keep coming back to it for years until you beat it. Or maybe it's just me.

Gradius III didn't last long in the arcades that for sure.

I really wanted to like the arcade Gradius III, but starting from stage 3 onward the game gets steadily more and more determined to drain away any fun the player's having.

It's good to see a little love for Gradius IV's soundtrack. Personally I prefer Gaiden's, but IV's is fantastic, and it seems it never gets much credit.

I really like IV's soundtrack too,... especially some of the more 'jazzy' stages (Demeter is a favourite.)
