Now I know why they omitted those 3D stages from the SNES version of Gradius III:

Gradius III's soundtrack keeps luring me to my doom too. ^_^ Great stuff.

"Dupon" (Stage 2 theme) is one of my series favourites, I'd certainly give Gradius IV that. Perfect example of the uncomplicatedly upbeat sound I always associate with Konami shooters.Samurai Fox wrote:I've always thought that Gradius IV Fukkatsu had the best soundtrack, but that's just me.
I can only make it to Stage 3 Part 1 of Gradius III. I'm saving it for a particularly masochistic rainy day, I keep telling myself!

The arcade Gradius III is overly long for an arcade title. I know that tviks and my mate KAC have 1CC'd it though. Its really just a learning/mind-mapping thing. The final stage with its Bosses Revisited and the blacking out screen when you descend into the final section are a bit nasty.
I'm not sure what the programmers were thinking when they designed Stage 3
. Its about 15-20mins long and as boring as hell. The stage 3 Boss is a strange one too - you can opt to stay centred and fit in the tiny zig zag beams, or go behind it (in the correct order) and last it out until it disappears.
The other strange bit is of course the Stage 9 Ice Cube rush, where you take your chances hiding behind the cubes in a corner.

Actually my record is 3-7, although that was in the asian version. I never quite played the japanese version after I made my first loop speedups only -replay.CIT wrote:Well, tviks, who looped Gradius V 15 times, only made it to the second loop of III. That's saying something.
This game is truly something special. You think that it's purely impossible but you just keep coming back to it for years until you beat it. Or maybe it's just me.
