I played it many times to make a point (hey, I was trying to see if it was worth the $60+ at the time of release).

Ok, on topic, and there are some potentially inflammatory comments coming up, so those who are easily angered, look away now.

I hate Battle Garrega.

I quite like the look of Ibara though.

I have £40 burning a hole in my pocket.

Should I invest before it's double the price?

I haven't played Battle Garegga tons of times and I don't know what you don't like about Garegga but I doubt you'll face the same things with Ibara. The mood is pretty different in both games. Ibara's the best vert shmup I've played on PS2.

TBH, the only thing I don't really like is the fact the bullets are so hard to see. But it's a very big flaw.

Yeah go for it, you'll make your money back anyway if you sell it later..

PS I hate Battle Garrega too! :)

ps2 ibara is a very worth while purchase if only for the significantly awesome arrange mode! despite it's flaws it's fun to play so go for it.
warning: a huge warning sign is approaching fast!

You don't say...
If that's your problem get the Saturn version (and a Saturn if need be) and switch on Red Ball mode. Or, you can always play Batrider instead, everythings easy to see in that one. Fission mailed!

Mushi - More slowdown, especially in Arrange, and not the nice gradual type either. The really annoying stuttery type.
I thought the PCB didn't have Arrange mode.

That's what i wanted to say: if you get the game and find out that the arcade mode isn't your cup of tee (because it's inded Battle Garrega-ish), you still have the opportunity to enjoy the great Ibara look combined with a non Battle Garrega-ish gameplay.

The bullet visibility in Ibara, while not perfect, is improved by a decent margin over Garegga. However, though others might disagree, I tend to think that Ibara, in terms of pure mercilessness, is even more ruthless than Garegga, so be prepared to have your butt kicked, and hard. On a more minor note, having to not only use a different controller port, but also select your ship type in the options menu, is a frustratingly unnecessary pain in the backside.
I thought the PCB didn't have Arrange mode.
It doesn't (the closest thing to it is the separate "Black Label" version). Arrange isn't anything groundbreaking, but it is a nice change of pace from the Arcade mode (not to mention that you have the option of making the bullets even more easily visible, if that's a problem for you).

EDIT: Shoot, we were talking about Mushi, weren't we. Ah well. But yeah, it is kind of hard to compare something to a previous iteration of itself which doesn't exist, heh heh. The constant extra two options, I think, are responsible for most of the extra slowdown in Arrange.
If that's your problem get the Saturn version (and a Saturn if need be) and switch on Red Ball mode. Or, you can always play Batrider instead, everythings easy to see in that one.
I must be weird or something, as I've never found Red Ball mode, or Batrider's bullets, much better than Garegga on defaults...possibly worse.

*waits a moment for everyone to get all the "It's Just You" comments out of their system*

I never spoke of Batrider's bullets, just the game itself since unlike default Garegga not all bullets are of the harder-to-see missile type. It doesn't help the distinction between background and bullet isn't better defined either, at least Batrider's are blue rather than dull and almost khaki-like.

Yes! Get it and burn yourself a copy to abuse. Tuck the OG disc away until its time to sell. Have your cake and eat it, too!

I'm the other way around actually.

I love Battle Garrega, but don't like the look of Ibara that much. :(

It's not my cup of tea.

I might have to invest then. I've got all the other PS2 Cave ports, so it'd look nice on my shelf at least.

Yeh I've been after this for a while but keep missing it when it pops up for sale. Finally managed to track down a copy today. Its costing me 48 squids (GBP) with the extra booklet included. Pretty pricey for a PS2 game but I cant see it doing anything else but going up in price so I figured I should just bite the bullet.

Yeh thats the one. Strangely enough, all the time I've looking for this I didn't check there. It was only this morning going through my bookmarks I stumbled across them again.

You're probably going to tell me you just bought it now aren't you? >.<

Phew, you had me worried then. Didn't really fancy shelling out the extra 20 squids for the sealed version since I'd just be opening it as soon as I got it. Yeh 48 quid is still expensive enough though, but I suppose when I factor in that I dont have to import it from Japan or America it probably works out ok.

HAHAHAHAHAAAA.... I just burned my copy to make it even more difficult to find.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?
