I refuse to watch this much further than the first few seconds as I really should try and finish this one day and see for myself what it's like.
Trust me, it's not a big of issue while playing. (well not for me anyway).Pixel_Outlaw wrote:It looks great I just think the sprite blinking would drive me crazy.

That's strange, I bought mine from mash-mods earlier this year and he always responded promptly to e-mails, and sent me frequent updates on the progress too. I went through the shopping cart process on the site first though, don't know if that made any difference.
He even offered me a partial refund due to the condition of the unit he received from his supplier, which I gladly accepted, the condition was perfectly satisfactory for me.
Anyway, for me going from WSC to SwanCrystal, the screen itself is the huge improvement, rather than the front-lighting. I still play under a desk lamp to get the high scores.
I paid $121 shipped for my copy of JSS (which happened to be the reprint). Damned if it isn't worth that price, it's certainly the best shooter on a handheld ever made, and I would venture to say one of the best shooters on any platform.

This is interesting iatneH, in your view is it worth the additional money to get the frontlit version???iatneH wrote:the screen itself is the huge improvement, rather than the front-lighting. I still play under a desk lamp to get the high scores.
I've also ordered a WSC from mash-mods, but so far have only received an automated confirmation of the order - how long did it take them to turn around your order??
Cheers,

Hahah, no. I've cleared Solar Striker on the hidden Hard mode. JSS is much harder.shinsage wrote:Solar Striker's harder

I'll have to check Solar Striker sometime, not the first time I hear about it.
Didn't know there was a backlit WSC, going straight for the Swan Crystal seem like the option for me. Wish I could grab some headphone adapter though. Under a desk lamp at home, under neons at school or even better if you ask me, outside on a sunny day, that's where I train in order to beat iatneH's JS score.
Regarding that ending clip, after a few days of reading comments in this thread, I could not resist watching a few seconds of it. I doubt I'll ever 1CC JS but, as of now, I don't wanna know too much about what I haven't seen. The few seconds I've seen of the video reminded me of how I felt when I saw a clip of the mirror boss before I decided to grab the game. Simply insane!

I would say it highly depends on how you are going to use it. This might sound a bit backwards, but if you are just going to play casually anywhere, the frontlight may be helpful (especially on the bus). However, if you want to do some serious score play, you'd best be sitting right under a lamp or outside in the sun. This kind of reflective screen on the Crystal is absolutely gorgeous in sunlight. The frontlight is comparable (though a tiny bit weaker IMO) than the old version GBA SP. I have to turn the brightness dial a little bit down from the maximum, otherwise there is a bit of noise interference in the audio.Halloween Jack wrote:This is interesting iatneH, in your view is it worth the additional money to get the frontlit version???
Gregor was very quick with mine, he had the mod finished in 2 or 3 days and I had the unit in my hands before 2 weeks was up. This was from the initial order on the website, a couple of e-mails back and forth, and the package arriving at my door.I've also ordered a WSC from mash-mods, but so far have only received an automated confirmation of the order - how long did it take them to turn around your order??
It is frontlit like the old GBA SP and it is not an official model from Bandai. Besides, I know you are serious enough to use proper lighting for score play :)Sensato Kurai wrote:Didn't know there was a backlit WSC, going straight for the Swan Crystal seem like the option for me. It's surprising about headphone adaptors, I remember when I checked 1 or 2 years ago, there would a lot of them on eBay which is why I kept delaying my purchase. But when I decided to get one early this year, there were only 1 or 2... It's very nice to have more fine control over the volume, and I actually play better with the headphones..!
I just really wish SwanCrystals came in pink. I thought about getting another modded pink WSC, but there's no way I can go back to the crappy screen of the WSC.

Yeah, I was joking. I recently started playing SS again and was pretty surprised that, although it's incredibly simple, it can get pretty tough -- majorly in part because everything's black and white, so the bullets can be hard to see (Garegga's got nothin on this). That level 4 boss is a real bitch, too.Ghegs wrote:Hahah, no. I've cleared Solar Striker on the hidden Hard mode. JSS is much harder.shinsage wrote:Solar Striker's harder

Sounds excellent iatneH, hope I get similar serviceiatneH wrote:Gregor was very quick with mine, he had the mod finished in 2 or 3 days and I had the unit in my hands before 2 weeks was up. Incidentally, for interested UK shmuppers, Raven Games has the WSC for £25 a piece and Videogameimports has JSS for £75...

With having to buy a new one, trouble of shipping back and forth, having to pay for the mod itself + the fact that you only get a Wonderswan Color instead of a Crystal (and a Crystal´s screen is a huge +), you might be better off getting a modded Swancrystal one straight from the modders at $118...Halloween Jack wrote:iatneH wrote: Incidentally, for interested UK shmuppers, Raven Games has the WSC for £25 a piece
That´s like £59 total or something.
well, that´s what I´d do anyway.
Would like to hear some more impressions on the mod though, before even considering it. (So please let us know what you think of it Halloween Jack!
The more impressions the merrier

Thanks Super Laydock, sounds good advice - that's exactly what I've opted forSuper Laydock wrote: With having to buy a new one, trouble of shipping back and forth, having to pay for the mod itself + the fact that you only get a Wonderswan Color instead of a Crystal (and a Crystal´s screen is a huge +), you might be better off getting a modded Swancrystal one straight from the modders at $118...

Also, I should have been a little clearer with my acronym, as £24.99 does get you a SwanCrystal, not a WSC as I incorrectly stated

Is this some kind of bossrush shooter? The gameplay looks brilliant for a handheld, and seeing this many sprites onscreen and stuff like sprite rotation really makes me wonder why the sound is so basic. Also, Wikipedia tells me that this is a homebrew from 2004 - someone really needs to do something as good for the GBA or the DS.

No it´s a fully fledged shooter. popcorns and everything there.FrederikJurk wrote:Is this some kind of bossrush shooter? The sound is basic cause the Wonder swans speakers suck (dunno how it is with the headphones on though...)
Also it´s the winner of a programming competition organized by Bandai.
One of the prizes was a real release of the game on cartridge.
It was altered/improved over the original game before release though, hence the full name: Judgement Silversword: Rebirth edition.
There´s a caravan like mode game called Judgement Silversword:Cardinal Sins too, which is only playable on the system if you have a wonderwitch (player) and it´s technically even more amazing!
