thanks. ^_^
actually i've been reading this forum for a fair while already, i just rarely ever post...
ST Dragon wrote:How long have you been playing shmups for and which one was the 1st that got you into the genre?
Mushi!
i had always completely ignored the genre, categorizing them with all the other stupid wargames i couldn't care less about. 2 years ago i was pretty bored with videogames in general. i don't like cutscenes. i don't like 3D. and then some day i saw these incomprehensible screenshots of this Mushihimesama game, not knowing it was a shmup, and thought it looked absolutely lovely. i didn't have a clue what they were dipicting really, but their pretty colors sparked my curiosity. so i said to eretsua (who posts here more often) "hey can't you like download that or something? i wanna know what that is". and he did and we played it and laughed our heads off at how impossibly hard and utterly chaotic it was, and after 32768-crediting it we were like "ok, WTF did we just play?". but somehow the sheer otherworldly bizarreness of it fascinated me, and thereafter whenever we wanted to play a game together i suggested Mushi over and over again. then slowly we started to get a hang of it, funny turned into fun, eretsua bought the game, and soon we hardly played anything else. that is, until he started buying other Cave games as well. shortly after the release of Ibara i caved in and bought me a japanese playstation to play this stuff on my own (also non-Cave shmups). and recently eretsua went on to buy a supergun and such a fancy xrgb+ thing and a couple of pcbs and it's all my fault. ^_^

ST Dragon wrote:After all, it is an unusual genre for women, considering that most prefer Puzzle Bobble, Tetris, Sudoku, etc... ;)
ugh, don't ever make me choose between bullet hell and high-speed tetris!

Once bitten, twice shy. Vulcan venus was a dude.

I completely believe there are girls here and that girls play shmups. I also believe there are some real twisted dudes on here who want to pretend they are women. There-is-no-way-to-be-sure.

Oh my god a girl on the internet who shares an interest in the same niche video game genre as me!
Good luck or cry.

He means a MAME .inp file, which is a recording of player input that can be replayed to watch your game. What makes it a joke is the reference to this abomination of a thread.

What versions of tetris do you play? I'm actually quite addicted to the Tetris Grand Master series.

lol, why did i just read all of that?
what a glorious mess. ^_^

i haven't tried those, though some of the footage i saw had my hands itching to play. though for me it's really a handheld game. playing it on anything bigger just feels weird. a while ago i got Tetris DX cause the internet said it's the best GB Tetris, but it caps the speed before getting interesting. a friend lent me her Tetris DS, but in that one you can take a nap in between 2 blocks, even on level 20... also, infinite spin is not cool. so actually my favorite is still the ancient gameboy version.

i hate how Tetris is inherently doomed to somehow break down at high speeds. someone should make a control scheme where you just have a separate button corresponding to every column (hey it works for rhythm games!), and make blocks spawn in that column, plus 4 buttons corresponding to every orientation. it'd take some getting used to, but it would allow instant drop without resorting to infinite spin. ^_^

pretty much only play arrange in Ibara. my best restart-free run was i think 39*10^? (sorry i just can't keep track of the number of digits of each game, but it got me the second place in the default list). i'm happy if i score an extend and some change on stage 1. -_-;;

The juvenile attitude and sexist opinions of many of the men I have met in the gaming community are what keep women away from the scene, not a lack of interest. The posts in this thread are an example of both why women might feel like that cannot be involved in the gaming community and why many would feel that games are "for nerds" who have no social skills and a inability to speak to women as human beings.
