Mushi!ST Dragon wrote:How long have you been playing shmups for and which one was the 1st that got you into the genre?
i had always completely ignored the genre, categorizing them with all the other stupid wargames i couldn't care less about. 2 years ago i was pretty bored with videogames in general. i don't like cutscenes. i don't like 3D. and then some day i saw these incomprehensible screenshots of this Mushihimesama game, not knowing it was a shmup, and thought it looked absolutely lovely. i didn't have a clue what they were dipicting really, but their pretty colors sparked my curiosity. so i said to eretsua (who posts here more often) "hey can't you like download that or something? i wanna know what that is". and he did and we played it and laughed our heads off at how impossibly hard and utterly chaotic it was, and after 32768-crediting it we were like "ok, WTF did we just play?". but somehow the sheer otherworldly bizarreness of it fascinated me, and thereafter whenever we wanted to play a game together i suggested Mushi over and over again. then slowly we started to get a hang of it, funny turned into fun, eretsua bought the game, and soon we hardly played anything else. that is, until he started buying other Cave games as well. shortly after the release of Ibara i caved in and bought me a japanese playstation to play this stuff on my own (also non-Cave shmups). and recently eretsua went on to buy a supergun and such a fancy xrgb+ thing and a couple of pcbs and it's all my fault. ^_^
ugh, don't ever make me choose between bullet hell and high-speed tetris!ST Dragon wrote:After all, it is an unusual genre for women, considering that most prefer Puzzle Bobble, Tetris, Sudoku, etc...
