Hmm, I found a review that says on a PSX the ship keeps moving a bit after you release the d-pad. I've only played it with my PS2, and only with the analog stick (I find the dual shock's d-pad abysmal) and it does not keep moving that way. Have you tried it?

I dusted off Night Raid last night and tried it with the analog stick, and the control still felt loose to me...anyone else tried this?Ceph wrote:Hmm, I found a review that says on a PSX the ship keeps moving a bit after you release the d-pad. I gotta say, as underrated as this game is, its one of my favourite shooters ever. To me it bridges the gap between old school and manic. It neither has the crazed bullet patterns of Takumi's later work, but nor does it look as dated as some of the older 16-bit shooters and i find it's middle of the road-ness comforting.dave4shmups wrote:YES the green laser weapon rocks!!alpha5099 wrote:It's the name of the Saturn port. I'm not sure what's so Plus about it. I've tried the Saturn mode, and it's just an obnoxious wobble mode made up to look like a 16-bit tate port, like Truxton or Fire Shark with the big black box on the right side.dpful wrote: What's Kyukyoku Tiger II Plus? (I'll admit that I was previously rating KT2 from memory- I just went back and played it..... and loved it)
My question to you is: have you played as the second player helicopter? Its green weapon is the best in the game, one of my favorite weapons in any shmup. It's a railgun, and it gives off electromagnetic lightning bolts to any enemies it passes by.I played this game when I was younger, in a nearby arcade, as Twin Cobra II, and I was thrilled when I found out it got a Saturn port! Definately a very underappreciated shmup; love it.
I don't care much for bullet-hell either, but, IMO, NOBODY does it as well as Takumi!

Yes, with both d-pad and the analog stick the input "bufferization" problem is still there. Also it's not like the ship keeps moving every time d-pad/stick is released, it only happens sometimes (but quite often), so it's probably not immediately noticeable. It's not the only effect either, sometimes there is a delay between pressing controls and the ship actually starting its movement.BulletMagnet wrote:I dusted off Night Raid last night and tried it with the analog stick, and the control still felt loose to me...anyone else tried this?

I only ever played it once or twice, that must be why I didn't notice it. I was planning to give it some extensive testing later on. Anyway, even without the control problem, Night Raid is extremely hard - staying alive AND collecting bonus items is nigh impossible, imo. 1cc is probably out of the question (at least for the PSX version). Still, a pretty unique game, and not a bad one. Takumi's Mars Matrix is just way more refined.

Farthest I've been is level five. True, you accumulate weapons, but nearly every single time I took a hit it was due to one of two reasons. 1.) My weapons couldn't destroy a file of enemies quickly enough, so with nowhere to dodge, I was forced to crash into one. 2.) I can't see the damn bullets, especially the thin, light blue ones. Did I mention tap-dodging doesn't really exist here?Shatterhand wrote:You feel underpowered in X2? How far did you go?
You NEVER lose any weapons in X2.. NEVER. In the beginning you indeed is underpowered, but later in the game you get so over-powered.. its ridiculous. X2 is the most unbalanced shmup ever!

The more I read about these floaty controls the more I'm convinced they're somehow related to the hardware you play them on, because the results seem to vary a lot between people. I get floatiness in Night Raid, Zanac Neo and few others, but not in X2.Damocles wrote:Heh...if you think the controls in Night Raid are floaty, try playing X2. Apparently it wasn't bad enough making you underpowered and bullets hard to see, so they decided to make you play on ice.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

B/c you bumped an ancient topic about Takumi to ask for it, or b/c you can't figure it out? (Yes, I realize it probably came back in a search for it, but you'll get a lot more attention by starting a more appropriately titled thread).sideshow wrote:I've got a really stupid question about Kyuukyoku Tiger II Plus for Saturn. How do you put credits into the game! I must be retarded or something.
