Pray they don't set the region bit.

I would consider tate unlikely - US consumers who fuck their equipment up will sue - isn't that why it was disabled in Raiden Project all those years ago?

Agreed. Microsoft already committed to a "no Tate" policy for Xbox Live Arcade games. Greg Canessa stated this in an interview with Gamespot during the last E3, noting that they expect their customers to be playing their 360 on HDTVs where Tate cannot apply. I expect that similarly to be the case for all the console's retail releases.
Hilden wrote:Chong mentioned that it'll be a retail release at first. Not sure what the "at first" part means but he wouldn't clarify any further.
I have to say I found some of Chong's answers in that interview a little odd (can't quite put my finger on it, maybe he was just nervous...)

Anyway congrats on the Team Fremont shmup news scoop! :)

Wonderful. Nothing makes me dance for joy when stupid people spoil it for everyone else.

I know this is a bit off topic but is there a thread that list all the console shmups that support TATE? Showing what region the game that supports its and such. I did a search and got a uber amount of pages to look through. Thanks.

Hmm...just outta curiosity, is any reason given as to why the series has switched over from Sony's system to MS's? Just wondering offhand.

At least it's being rumored for a console I've actually planned on picking up sometime in the near future.

Taito Type X is a PC in a box running DirectX9 and .NET. That makes the Xbox 360 and PC/Windows platforms a no-brainer to port their arcade stuff too, compared to the utter skullfuckery of Sony's PS2 devkit (not to mention the PS2's hardware is getting very long in the tooth compared to the other options).

Ikaruga had tate for the US and UK markets, as did the Shikigami II USA release, so I don't see your point really. Those are much more recent games than Raiden project.

I have the US version of Raiden Project for PS1 and it has TATE or they call it horizontal mode.

It's not a full Tate in the US version, as the joystick controls were altered so US gamers could play the game as a hori shmup rather than rotating their TVs.

Chong never mentioned the reason for bringing IV to the 360. However, he did mention that UFO had some trouble getting Sony to give Raiden III the greenlight. It sounded like that's one of the main reasons for the delay.

I would imagine that MS is a little easier to convince as they seem to have something of an appreciation for the shmup on 360. He also mentioned using the processing power of the 360 as a bonus.

Understood. Just popped Raiden Project in for a spin and the controllers are still Hori. Sure feels different playing the game horizontal.

Well now that this news has hit about Raiden4 on 360...and I've let it stew all day, I just wanna throw in my 2cents.

Listened to the podcast this morning and as much as I hold the guys at UFO on a pedestal for releasing Raiden3 this month, I'm not convinced.
I think the rep. from UFO was stating his desire to release #4 on 360, if the conditions were right, but I'd hardly take this as an announcement of any sort. After all these guys are US publishers.. all they are doing is localizing a Japanese release. Only when Moss or Taito or whoever is in charge of distribution in Japan announce a home port will we know what platform its going to arrive on. Until then it kinda sounds like wellwishing right?
Not to spread anti-M$-360-hate, thats not the point of all this. In fact I don't own any of the 3 next gen(or is it current gen?) systems. If it arrives on 360 thats great, right now I dont think this is official though..

BTW, I was under the impression that this wasnt the most graphically intense game anyways,... anyone play the loc-test? Is it clearly advanced enough to be a next gen release?

The US release of Gunbird 2 on DC has it too.
Feedback will set you free.

According to this site (via Danmakugata):
http://www.gamespark.jp/modules/news/index.php?p=1368

The game will be a regular disc-based release in the USA, not an XBLA download. A Japanese release is still unknown at this time.

Considering every 360 release has 720p support, I don't see how lack of tate support is that big of a deal if you have a hi-def TV. 480x640 fits in 1280x720 quite nicely (with massive borders, but no drop in resolution).

Also, since it's a polygon based game it should scale pretty well too, if that is needed.

Well, Moss did at least announce that they were planning on releasing something for the 360 a couple of months ago.

There is little MOSS interview in latest issue of Famitsu Xbox360 monthly mag, while they're not explicitly mention Raiden IV, they said they're working on 'standard' STG for 360 with improved graphics, and how they look forward to announce it officially in April. Warashi are working on game for 360 aswell (mentioned in same issue)

That article cites 1up and Joystiq as sources, which in turn cite the original Team Fremont interview as sources. In the interview, Mr. Ahn stated that while he was pretty certain it would be a retail release, he wasn't ruling out an XBLA version.

Regarding JusteZero's post, Mr. Ahn did tell us that they do have Raiden IV up and running on the 360 and would send us screen shots and other assets as soon as he's able. Of course, things do change, and a number of events could happen between now and Raiden IV's potential release. However, he did confirm that they are definitely planning on releasing it.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

You have your 360 hooked up to a cab? Yeah, I think you just barely might be in a minority with that :)

I never said that. I said I don't play shooters on my TV. I have all my consoles setup in such a way that they CAN be displayed on the cab. I don't even own a 360. If they have a retarded 'no tate mode allowed' policy for software, I just won't buy any vert shooters on that system; I have no desire to support such a dumb policy.

There's no "no tate allowed" policy. Who makes such rumours up anyway...an why?! I really hope that if they're going to sell this in a box and not as a download they won't try to sell it full price. Should be a budget title like Raiden 3 on the PS2 imho.

If you're playing it on an HDTV, the screen should be big enough.

If you were able to rotate it I don't think you'll be able to shift your eyes fast enough unless you were sitting from far.

technically, arcade monitors are monitors and some HDTVs are also monitors (because they contain no tuner) so there is little difference between my 29" 4:3 high-definition Sony "television" and any random arcade monitor, except the fact that a mulisync arcade monitor maxes out at 640x480 whereas my screen can go up to 1080i (letterboxed)

There is a code to use with a Game Shark that will allow for proper controls when playing Raiden Project in tate.

Raiden Project code for tate
