STOP THE FUCKING PRESSES!!

ok, not sure if it's been mentioned since I haven't read the whole thread, but the hi score table of the version at the show says "futsuu mode" which means Normal Mode.

HELLS YEAH! It's not going to be easy after all!

The last we need is another really hard shoot em up. I mean pretty much all of them have got a really high difficulty.

A nice easy well balanced one could be good to get more people into them.

I believe this is pretty much what Cave did when they release ESPGaluda (which is considered the easiest of Caves shmups, at least from what I heard), ending a string of games that got harder and harder (ending with DDP DOJ).

Besides, I don´t think difficulty makes a big impact on how popular a shmup gets. What counts is how accessible it is - and how many pretty girls are in it.

The final boss of any Cave game, I find, is always balls hard, with the exception of maybe the original Don Pachi (which is still tough, don't get me wrong.) Yeah, Progear and ESP Galuda are pretty easy, but the final bosses are merciless bomber-fests. Especially Galuda, geez... using your special attack actually POWERS IT UP!

If they're going for accessibility in MM Pork they should save that stuff for the second loop.

"Girls" and "accessibility" don't belong in the same sentence. ^_-

I'm with 99pence. I love Cave, but I lack serious volumes of skill. I'd love another game from them that didn't cater to only some cybernetically enhanced Japanese super-soldier player, but to an average human being.

Some of us need to work and tend to our families, and can't actually practice these games 8 hours a day.

In the last couple of years I've managed to get several of my friends into Cave shooters. What I've discovered is that, as long as they play a couple hours a week and use a large tated screen and a decent stick, they eventually manage to reach the fourth stage in any Cave shooter, barring DDP DOJ, Dangun Feveron and Ibara.

Fourth stage out of five or six isn't that bad, is it? And we are talking average-ability gamers who are usually into PC or mainstream console titles.

These shooters are not as hard as most people make them out to be. I will reiterate my belief, in the knowledge that people may violently disagree, that many shmup fans use the wrong equipment, and are therefore making life much harder for themselves.

Taking this to the extreme, just imagine trying to play Mushihime-sama Ultra mode on a Game Boy Advance SP (assuming that it was possible). Sure, if someone devoted their life to the task they might eventually manage to 1CC it, but yeah... Hopefully some people here will get my point.

I think most of the last few years' Cave games have actually done pretty well to cater to a fairly wide range of shmuppers...most of them (the Galudas, Pink Sweets, even DOJ, and apparently Muchi also) can be played "for survival" or "for score", depending on how much of a challenge you want, while the Mushis offer several modes to accomodate everyone from old-schoolers to shmup ninjas...about the only exception to this off the top of my head is Ibara, and as many have pointed out, it's not really a Cave game.

Cave makes their games for the asian market, where even random girls totally own Battle Garegga. I think that they are more afraid of players dominating their games too early and stop playing them because they are too easy.

You are very right, and I do understand that. My complaint above was just a small squeaky Caucasian voice hoping to be heard in a sea of cybernetically enhanced Asian players.

Maybe one day when the kids leave home and I've paid off the house I can put in the hours required to skill up. See you all in 25 years. I hope my PS2 is still working by then.

If you guys want an easy Cave game, just play Mushi's original mode. If it's still too hard for you set the difficulty to "very easy".

Funny you should mention that...just yesterday I played Mushi on a cab for the first time over at bay's place. I have the PS2 port, and on that I find Original and Maniac to be of about equal difficulty, as I can't get past stage 4 on either one...on the arcade version, however, I only managed to get to stage 3 in Maniac but managed to make it all the way to 5 on Original. Really odd...

I guess you´ll be able to emulate it on a wristwatch by then, though-controlled. And japanese kiddie players will be able to 1cc the latest Cave shmups... without even PLAYING them!!!

This is a myth. You are far more likely to find a shitty player at an average arcade than a good one. Even at HEY, there are people that don't qualify as "good". Loads of suvival only players that don't even get that far.

The sample population in one space (Tokyo) that will play these games is higher though, which is where all the good players come in.

Is this Muchi Muchi Pork on the cover of the April '07 Arcadia?

Check it out here at Play-Asia. I hope it is because I went ahead and ordered an issue anyways.

I can't read Japanese, but I dig the pretty pictures 8)

I am sorry but this isn't Muchi Muchi Pork on the cover. Also there is no Muchi Muchi Pork announcment on that cover. So maybe there won't be any coverage of it. Next issue probably... ?

If it makes you feel any better, there is exactly one screen shot and a short paragraph on the game in that issue.
