I would really like to upgrade my PSP to 3.02 OE-B firmware so that I could have access to the large library of PSX shooters (special thanks to BIG for his recent compatibility posts - I have all those PSX shooters and I can't wait to make them portable) - but I have an important question, primarily for those who have already upgraded from 1.50 to 3.02 OE-B:
Do the homebrew emulators still work as long as they are in the GAME150 folder? I have had a 1.50 PSP for more than a year, and I love its homebrew compatibility. I swore that I would never upgrade.
In particular, do the following emulators still work?
CPS1PSP
CPS2PSP
MVSPSP
DGEN
SNES9xTYL
PCEP
UNDEMULATOR (this one is not as important)
If they all still work, I think I'll finally take the plunge and upgrade my 1.50 firmware. Any information from those who have already done the upgrade would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

i just downloaded & tried CPS2PSP v1.61 which boots up fine if you put it in the GAME150 folder. i'll try out the other emu's for you later but it's a pretty safe bet that they will work

I've tested all but one (UMDemu) and they all seem to work fine.cl25 wrote:I would really like to upgrade my PSP to 3.02 OE-B firmware so that I could have access to the large library of PSX shooters (special thanks to BIG for his recent compatibility posts - I have all those PSX shooters and I can't wait to make them portable) - but I have an important question, primarily for those who have already upgraded from 1.50 to 3.02 OE-B:

Not that you need to run dh or umdemu on fw 3.02 oe-b anyway, since you can now launch UMD/ISOs on the fly.

Place the ISOs (no CSO support in this vers.) in an ISO folder like you would with umdemu/dh. Go to your GAME folder and you should be able to see the game icons. Select the game you wish to play and launch.
However, since the 'noumd' feature isn't supported in this release, you'll need to have a UMD in the drive in order to launch ISOs.

Actually, i have 3 games in CSO format in the ISO folder, and they work pretty good with FW 3.02 OE-B ... now, in case that for some odd reason, they dont boot (they should), you can always launch DevHook 0.52 from there and run FW 3.03...BIG wrote:...snip ...

and the No-UMD feature, it works, but has a low compatibility list yet... so, i guess D-A will be workin on it soon (hope so) ... but the feature its there, and works (partially).

Nobody answered my question. I don't own a PSP yet, and I'd like to if I could do half of what was mentioned.
The world would be a better place if there were less shooters and more dot-eaters.

ok, found it...Blade wrote:Okay, I'm going to ask this ONCE, but if you haven't bought a PSP yet, I'm guessing there's no chance in heck you'll be able to run/exploit this Homebrew Ware? As in...you'd have to have an earlier model of PSP?
dude, if you read thru the whole post, or any other with relative info, you'll fnd out that mostly EVERY PSP can be programmed to run homebrew or upgraded to FW 3.02 OE-B --- even the infamous PSP's with mobo TA-082 canbe programmed now (but with those, its a lil risky).
so, you wanna get one?... go ahead, but, you make sure it doesnt have FW 2.81 or above...

I just upgraded from 1.50 to 3.02 OE-B, and everything is working like a charm. FYI - here are some more games to add to the tested list:
Strikers 1945 I (J) - not working (loads; black screen during gameplay)
Strikers 1945 II (J) - working
Thunderforce V (U) - working
Gaia Seed (J) - working (no BGM)
Project X2 - not working (loads; white screen during gameplay)
Thanks to everyone for their help!
BTW, thanks to BIG for the tip about 3.02 OE-B not requiring undemulator - I'm able to directly load Star Soldier and Sengoku Cannon directly from the memory stick now. This firmware is amazing.

Any ideas why some psx games are working and others are not?

You're probably right.Kaspal wrote:emulation itss not perfect science, so, im guessin that with every neew FW update from sony (since FW 3.00), they are releasing a new version of the emulator with more compatibility...CMoon wrote:Any ideas why some psx games are working and others are not?
Also,I think the fact that red book audio isn't supported can possibly be the contributing factor to non-working games.
Here are a few additions to the 'working' list:
Jumping Flash!
Samurai Shodown: Warriors' Rage
Internal Section
Adventures of Little Ralph
Capcom Vs. SNK Pro
Silent Bomber
Raystorm

actually, it makes the PSP the portable console with the biggest collection of games to play on the go EVER! (if you add to the PSX ones, the CPS1&2, NeoGeo, GBA, NES, SNES, Genesis games).rib wrote:did anyone notice that this makes the psp the handheld with the biggest selection of playable shmups?

A few more PS1 shooters to add to the list:
Darius Gaiden (J)
- not working [bad backgrounds, no BGM]
Geki-Oh Shienryu (J)
- working [it's not the Saturn version, but it's decent nonetheless, and portable too]
Salamander Deluxe Pack (J)
- working
I plan to test a few more soon; will post the results on this thread.

I just converted Dodonpachi and Donpachi with 3.03 CDDA, and they are working fine with BGM now. I have one question, though: Is there a way to configure the d-pad so that it works properly in TATE mode? When you have the screen in TATE mode, I noticed that the d-pad still works as though it were in YOKO mode. I've noticed the same thing for other vertical shooters with a TATE option (e.g. Strikers 1945 I & II, Raiden DX, etc.). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Look for games that have fake-horzi options like Raiden Project, where the controls are designed for you to play it without TATEing your TV.cl25 wrote:I just converted Dodonpachi and Donpachi with 3.03 CDDA, and they are working fine with BGM now. Commandline Popstation will find properly-named picture files in the same directory as your iso, as well as allow you to name your game. Check the readme for more info.jpolz wrote:PSX2PSP lets you customize your ebootsRotateMe wrote:Another question: is it possible to change the menu-pics and -names of the games after you converted the games? Incidentally, Darius Gaiden will not work with CDDA

For Don/Dodonpachi,go into the options menu and select 'Tate [yoko] mode for true tate action.cl25 wrote:I just converted Dodonpachi and Donpachi with 3.03 CDDA, and they are working fine with BGM now.
