Never mind that $6-$8 doesn't sound particularly high for a single game to me, not unless you plan on acquiring around 10-15 games a month (which classifies as sever overkill)...
My friendly suggestion is to stay as far away from the GameFAQs board as humanly possible. It can be a decent place to lurk if you are looking for a Wii in the first place, but beyond that it's a pre-teen wasteland.
As for the games, $8 for a Turbo game would be cause for concern if it were not for the particulars of R-Type's treatment on the system in Japan. Beyond that, $6 is a comfortable price for TG-16/PCE releases. I can understand why some individuals don't like the idea of paying more than $6 for a TG16 game--they simply do not know the history of the game. Their gripes can be easily dismissed if this is a one-time occurance, but if this is a sign of Nintendo toying with a $8 price point for the TG/PCE games, I'll complain right along with them.
I own all the TG games with the exception of Victory Run (yeah, I finally submitted to the urge to buy R-Type), but an $8 price point would have pushed all the titles except for Super Star Soldier & R-Type to the wayside. If truth be told, I believe $8 is too much for most Genesis and SNES games. As a result, I'll only score a select core of "must have" titles for those systems. I could see $8 for Sonic and Golden Axe, but I already have them in two (or more) classic game compiliations. If it isn't a dedicated shooter (such as the Thunder Force series) or another top-notch title not on a previous compilation, Genesis titles won't see $8 from me. And right now only Castlevania IV has prevailed upon me for the SNES. I'm fairly sure I'm not alone in this sentament.
Nintendo is walking a fine line when it comes to their VC titles. Don't get me wrong, I really like the VC feature, but I'm still readily aware of what it
COULD be based on the model set forth by the XBox 360. Without extra features (leaderboards, online multiplayer, presentatiion bonuses like orginal artwork/instruction manuals etc.) to give additional value to these titles, my motivation drops significantly to buy just any title for the Genesis and SNES beyond those that have a personal import to me.
An $8 price point for TG16/PCE games would place them in the same boat. Here's hoping that R-Type is an isolated (and understandable) exception for the time being.
