Which is why I like Shoot the Bullet. Not all of the patterns are traditional.Twiddle, modified by dai jou bu, wrote:bullet hell is a pretty stale genre

dont knwo about you, but like damocles said, if the bullet patterns were faster (say, 50% faster), the games would be for die-hard-hard-core-shmup-gamers ... and thats not the idea on a doujin game ... they can easily tweak the bullet speed, but they decide not to do it, cuz not all of us who buy those games are G.OD.s Shmuppers ...Twiddle wrote:0.2mph bullet hell is a pretty stale genredai jou bu wrote:All this talk about ZUN and not one single mention of Shoot the Bullet, the game that makes me forgive him by bringing in a fresh concept in this stale genre.

wanna see the games run like hell?... theres a tool outthere that removes the 60FPS limit on ZUN's games... so that, they run at 140+ frames (depending on your machine power) ... with that, you can see that, the games are made like that on purpose.

Hey Air Rade rocks!! I have all three games, well two games and one add on really. Airrade and Airrade Air happen to be the first ever Doujinsoft game I brought with [dMp]Drill Milkly Punch which is a weird sort of arena beat-em-up style game were you have to punch enemies in to each other just like Airrade which is very unique for a game of it's gender. I also must add that I consider Airrade Air to be one of the finest hori shmups ever made.dai jou bu wrote:Guys, Studio Siesta came up with the concept of making enemies fly into other enemies causing Twinkle Star Sprites chain reactions first before Warashi did.
That reminds me. I need to finish Air Rade Air so I can review it here. ><

And how do you know that these doujin shmups aren't made for the diehardcore base? Airrade Air is pretty brutal as well as any of the Seihou games, where they give you .0006234sec to react.Kaspal wrote:dont knwo about you, but like damocles said, if the bullet patterns were faster (say, 50% faster), the games would be for die-hard-hard-core-shmup-gamers ... and thats not the idea on a doujin game ... they can easily tweak the bullet speed, but they decide not to do it, cuz not all of us who buy those games are G.OD.s Shmuppers ...

ZUN games are called Touhou (east in japanese)...
Seihou (west, in japanese) games are another saga of doujins, in which we can find games like BanShiRyuu or Samidare... and those are pretty brutal games ... the makers of this series of games, were called "Amusement Makers" in the beggining... now, they have branched in two doujin circles, but i dont remember the names of them.
about your question... i really dont know, but i have a "feeling" that thsoe games are NOT made for a die har fan base... at least, not anymore (i think that maybe it was like that in the very beggining).
Air Rade Air?... dont know, never liked that game much... its pretty cool and all that, but i never really got into it much.

I'll admit that the pattern would probably be hard for me beause I am only mediocre at shmups, but even I say that the first minute (at least) of the video is simply rote memorization.Kaiser wrote:Watch this pattern it came from hell(Imperishable night)! It's more than moving left & right

Even amongst big Zun fans Imperishable Night is regarded as more of a memorization shooter than anything, and is often disliked because of it. My personal favorite is Perfect Cherry Blossom, followed by PoFV (aka Twinkle Star Sprites done in Zun's world).
I don't have a link for the replay, but one of the scarier things I saw done in a Zun game was a guy timing out Flandre's final pattern in Embodiment of Scarlet Devil. Most of the replay looks believable, but the last 5-10 seconds of that final pattern... I swear to you it looks like he used an AI for that last bit.

I have five of Zun's games now and I have to agree that IN is more memory based than others. Latetly I have been playing a lot of EoSD because I recently recived it in the post and that is a lot more reflexed based from what I can tell. PCB is proberbly my second favourate in the series though, I dunno why but it just seems to grow on my more and more every time I play it.

thats true... PCB its the fans favorite ZUN's game... but somehow i like IN the most, dont know why... with PCB in the second place and EoSD in the third.Arvandor wrote:Even amongst big Zun fans Imperishable Night is regarded as more of a memorization shooter than anything, and is often disliked because of it. That's a Japanese ZUN's games high scores site. People submit their high score by uploading the games replay file. And the good news is all those files submited is avaliable for download.
Just put the downloaded replay files within the "replay" folder of the game, and you could watch the game replay using the games replay function.
I had post about this replys before, but seems no one is interested.

Actually, SAM, i guess i asked you about the special file for IN awhile ago... so, its not that noone its intersted, is just that most ppl dont know about ZUN games (i'd say, about doujin shmups).
i got to know about that site when it was mentioned at shrine maiden forums... there are some sick replays to watch for every ZUN windows game.
