I read they're supposed to release a wired option eventually, but that could be a long time from now. For the christmas season, I've spotted several ads for wireless routers for as little as $10 after the rebate game. Retailers will get more desparate by the 20s of this month.professor ganson wrote:I use cable and am not wireless, so I guess download fun is not an option.

The funny thing? The exact same thing was happening to me, by pure coincidence. Want to know what the problem is? Your wiimote is running low on batteries -_^ If you were using a wavebird, maybe it's running low on batteries, or getting a bad connection (I've had it happen to me before), and if you're using a wired GC controller... I don't know what's wrong with your game, because mine works fine now.DJ Incompetent wrote: You kow what? I think GH is a little glitchy. There's odd gaps in your fire and frame-skips while you're running. Just duck for 10 seconds...after every few you'll see a frame of your guy standing up. That doesn't sound like any reason this game has been hyped as long as it was. 'Never played the original, but I think this emulation was crapped on. Still fun. Definitely not worth $8.
This game is... awesome, totally worth the $8. I can see why this is "THE" run and gun of the day, and how it started Treasure's much deserved fanbase. I love throwing bombs back at enemies, good times ^_^ Is there a way to switch between the fire while walking guy and the fixed fire guy mid-game? Both my roommate and a friend coulda sworn you used to be able to on the Genesis.

It's been discovered that there are slight differences in VC games available in other countries classified in the same major region. When you learn of them, you can go to your Wii settings and change the country where you claim to be living. Then you can browse the VC game lineup for that specific country.
I haven't seen my pad in awhile (Finals Week). I'll roll off a US Wii country selection next time I look at it.
THE OBVIOUS: US & Europe downloading exclusive Japan VC games.
Reports are saying Japan is not a selectable option on the English consoles. I don't know technically how far the "Japan" console region extends to country-wise. If there is another selectable country (in Nintendo's region layout) that classifies as the "Japan" region....that could lead to a loophole?

That one's just a little bonus. If ya demand to (near-pointlessly) run any movie on yer Photo Channel.
I fed the game all through, but didn't find a way to switch guys during the run.

2 different controllers both using Classic. Same thing. I shall test your theory further over the weekend. Good call on the batteries though. I'm running some on the Panasonics so you still could be very much correct. So your Jump button doesn't automatically hit a second time when you hold it down while hitting other buttons? And the flame-thrower powerup works continuously? I'll pray. Thank you for hittin' back!Arvandor wrote:The funny thing? The exact same thing was happening to me, by pure coincidence. Yeah, it was doing all the same things for me, and I was like "Huh, it IS glitchy." It would randomly do jump twice, or the fire button would sputter occasionally. The thing that really tripped me onto it? My friend wanted to join in, and so I let him use a GC controller (we only have one classic). The problems on my end were getting worse... Much worse and more frequent. It was especially annoying randomly throwing my partner all over the place. The GC controller, however, had no such problems. Then I hit the home button, and noticed that nice little red battery with the single bar. "Oh duh!" I thought to myself. I don't think I played anymore GH after switching out the batteries though, and probably won't be able to tonight. Let me know if it fixes things for ya ^_^DJ Incompetent wrote:2 different controllers both using Classic. Same thing. I shall test your theory further over the weekend. I think the Wii works with the DS wireless USB dongle, which is much cheaper than a router.DJ Incompetent wrote:I read they're supposed to release a wired option eventually, but that could be a long time from now. Nope, and probably never will be unless by some miracle, one of the NOA execs makes it happen. But these are the same folks who could care less that a lot of people want the GBA Mother titles localized, so not likely. I'm also annoyed that there is (currently) no Sega Master System support.ZeetherKID77 wrote:Will there be MSX games on the VC in the US? That would be awesome

Yeah I was thinkin' about that one. It sounds like a good idea on paper, but all the strategy is going to be about what stage you should keep dying at to replay again and again until all your lives are spent. Can't say that's not lame.
At least that's how IIIiiii'm gonna do it
(provided someone posts a decent score first)
Wanna battle on Caravan?
It kinda blows, man. But thanks again for pointing it out. Didn't realize ya pretty much gotta play with a fresh round of juice just to mess around with old games. No wonder I was getting the same results on so many different remotes.
As for the page 1 list, there's a ton of crazy misinformation on news reporting on upcoming VC games since this whole console started. So I added a rumor section. No shmups till late feb, apparently. Some games come out without a hint. Others keep delaying. So basically anything goes.
Space Harrier 2 is up if all....5...of us felt like caring.

You were right. Got some Energizers up in that. Solved it. But it's like you can't play a VC game if the battery level drops to a 2/3 level. No matter what bluetooth controller style it starts to mash the rest of the buttons. If I expire a third of the batteries while playin' Alien Crush, it'll start to rapid fire the tilt button when I hit anything else.Arvandor wrote:Yeah, it was doing all the same things for me, and I was like "Huh, it IS glitchy." Yes it does; I'm using it. I had some troubles first with the firewall; but nintendo's website actually had pretty good instructions how to set up your firewall so that it let's the USB wi-fi chime on through. Then I realized that I had to pull Wii out from behind my subwoofer as that was obstructing the connection.zakk wrote:I think the Wii works with the DS wireless USB dongle, which is much cheaper than a router.DJ Incompetent wrote:I read they're supposed to release a wired option eventually, but that could be a long time from now. But yes; you can definitely use DS dongle with Wii, if you don't mind some hassle.

USB thinger is like, $40 still isn't it? If G Router can't be found for less, then get the dongle.zakk wrote:USB dongle, which is much cheaper than a router.
But..it's christmas...so....I don't think it'd be that hard?
Speaking of Christmas.
Ranking high on "nutjob rumors," Make a note to check the VC list during Christmas day. If there's any accuracy whatsoever on this, you can get Mario 1, Toejam & Earl, and R-TYPE for FREE

source (that went into the VC backpages for proof)
I rattle this back 'cause if it's true, 'dunno how long the freeness will stay. After hearing Wii Sports will be taken out of the console release eventually, the browser (in 2 days) will be free for awhile and later have a pricetag in June, there's no tellin' what these kidtendo people will do.

TG-16 R-Type confirmed for Christmas.
A Hudson employee posted this on the company forums:
"We wanted to continue our fun SOLVE THE PUZZLE, GUESS THE VC GAME shenanigans! Alas, the next game has already been leaked, so we all know it's going to be the sizzle shooter R-TYPE. Coming to you on Xmas day. Ho ho ho!"
But I guarantee you're going to pay for it. That free rumor is just nonsense.

It's already out in Japan. They didn't confirm that R-Type I actually means 4 levels of R-Type I, did they?
I was just in the mood to buy R-Type because I couldn't be bothered to get the PS version out of its case and boot up the PS2 to play it, but I decided to read the explanation on the Wii shopping channel before I bought it. I noticed that in the explanation it explicitly states that the version of R-Type available is only levels 1-4 and that R-Type II must be purchased to play levels 5 through to the final level.
Each part costs 600yen, and only I is available at the moment. If you buy both parts it becomes the most expensive single game on the Wii Virtual Console at 1200yen - 200yen more than Super Mario 64 - supposedly one of the best games ever made.
Anyone else think this is a fucking joke? The attitude of just emulating and not doing anything to enhance the roms is really starting to piss me off - especially with games that are kind of crap anyway (some of the NES catalogue, for example) costing 500yen. The least Hudson/Irem/Nintendo could do in this case is give us both parts of R-Type in a single rom.
R-Type III is available in a few days though, so it's all good

Yeah, it was this was with the Castlevania & Contra collection, and GameTap (which happens to include that collection - which is how I was able to play it, incidentally). At least with the Hanaho Games deal you got a real copy of MAME .36 to fiddle around with.than wrote:Anyone else think this is a fucking joke? I think that the X360 Live Arcade, cell phone ports, and homebrew projects have been the way to go. Significantly, only the Live Arcade approach seems to really work.
Ha, you answered my question before I even posted it!PBMax wrote:PC-Engine R-Type 1 was only four levels.
But the US TurboGrafx16 version included all 8 levels. If you live in the US that's probably the version that will be on VC Christmas day.
I've been wondering if the TG-16 version actually did live up to the title R-Type.
Word is that R-Type will be 800 points ($8).iatneH wrote:But R-Type is THE best game ever madethan wrote:it becomes the most expensive single game on the Wii Virtual Console at 1200yen - 200yen more than Super Mario 64 - supposedly one of the best games ever made.

At that price, I don't know if I'll spring for it. I already have R-Types for PSX, not to mention the original HuCard version. It would really worry me if some of the more highly anticipated TG16/PCE titles start going for 800 instead of 600. I mean, I'll gladly spring 800 for R-Type III when (or if) it is ever available for the US market, but 800 for R-Type is a little steep for those of us with the PSX version.
On a happier note, Castlevania IV and Super Mario Brothers are slated to be released. It's going to be a good Christmas...
