MANIAC MODE (RAPID FIRE)
438,986,793 – maco – stage 5 – PS2 – [A+4, C+2]

Run ended at the beginning of stage 5, stupid deaths all through this run.
Quite an embarrassing way to take the top score too.:oops:

Set A+ to 4. You can tap the slow stuff yourself, so there's no need for a 14 or 15 setting.

Ok thanks twe. I guess 14 would be too slow to hold chains in certain parts of the game. I remember experimenting with it when the PS2 port came out - It worked well on certain parts of ST3 and the ST4 Midboss. But the chain would drop due to the slow rate in others.

Cue Classless Pig Farmer's second opinion.......

Nice to hear that you're on the starting grid again :D
Anyway, it all depends on your tastes. I'm using 14 for ULTRA (I suggest 15 for Maniac, the stuff seems to explode a little bit earlier in this mode) because I'm lazy and I don't feel the need (at the moment) to tap the stuff manually. It works very well with the scorpion and stage 3, but I don't know about stage 4 and 5's mid-bosses (I hold A all the time on those, eheh) and surely it's weak for the first part of stage 5.
Anyway, you should consider that during a level (especially in stage 2 and 5) it's better to have a strong A+ (i.e. 2 or 4, in order to perform the hold C and hold A+ thing) and during the mid-bosses or stage 3 you can tap manually with great results anyway. Twe and maco are using this strat (2 or 4 for A+), and I'm not surprised at all ;)

The ideal sutup would be something like:
A+ 15
A+ 2/4
C+ 2
C+ 3 (for the fifth mid-boss, IIRC)

RAM mentioned that he was using
A+ 12Hz --> 4 on PS2
C+ 20Hz --> ??? less than 1...
C+ 10Hz --> 2

I use A+ and C together all the time, except with mids and stuff that I like to charge very well (things in stage 3, for example). For that stuff A+14 only is pretty good ;)
So i pass from A+ and C to A+ only and then to C+ only for banking time, then A+ and C again, and so on.

Oh yes, definitely. Only I don't know when, but I don't feel the need of Futari or any other game when Mushi is still so fascinating to me! :)

Yes, it means one spare life left. If you're on your last life when you beat it, you should put Lx0.

ok, bout a mil behind then, not a bad score :P initials are BBB :roll: someone must have been real dissapointed.

ive hit a bad streak on this game, on average I score about 40-50mil by the end of stage 3 everything above it is bonus (hs is 59mil), altho lateley i cant even get past the first stage, played like 20credits and havent passed stage 2 and scoring shite, WTF!? :x
did get a 4mil run on stage 1 tho.. a personal best, i guess atleast its something..

Yeah, once you understand the scoring system in Maniac mode and start improving your scores, you realise the game is one of the best shmups ever made. Have you played Mushi Futari yet? It's a bit different in some ways (most noticably the scoring system), but just as good and even more of an adrenaline rush due to the ramped up difficulty. I'm sure you'll play the hell out of it in Japan, in any case. :wink:

couldnt agree more, definetly underrated thisone.

havent had a chance to play futari yet, havent really gone out of my way to do so either since i already have plenty to play and im leaving so soon anyways, but i must say it looks great from what ive seen :)

btw how the hell does highscore saveing work on this game, ive set it to freeplay and now it saves my highscores to the bottom place of the overall ultra ranking !?!.
it seemed to work fine when i had it out on operating? (not like anyone beat the overall HS thats set by the infamous japanese player BBB 8) but "todays best" worked fine)

263,826,140 – AST-LUN-CPF – stage 5 – PS2 – [A+12, C+2]

Run recorded, and totally ruined at stage 4 with some crazy 3-bombs-in-stock deaths :?
The pic looks totally blurry just because I'm actually playing the game like that, due to some DVD-recorder issues...
