Darius Gaiden fire rate
Was this game developed with autofire in mind? Being a well-crafted and balanced game in all other regards, I just can't believe they got the fire rate so very very wrong, the default difficulty is just ridiculus (and most routes are still VERY challanging using autofire)! Thoughts?

Like many other shooters, e.g. most of the Gradius series, the default firing rate is too slow to be worthwhile. You can achieve a much better speed manually.
Unlike the original, the extra version of Darius Gaiden has full-rate auto fire enabled. Of course, you need all the help you can get going through all of the game's 28 stages in a single run.

So did most cabs in japan have autofire circuits installed? It sounds kinda stupid, it's barely enjoyable without autofire.Twiddle wrote:the other two preceding darius were balanced around autofire as well
Well, that's just one of two game modes. The default game mode has seven stages like the original, but scrambled (learning curve out the window:)).DarkWolf7 wrote:Unlike the original, the extra version of Darius Gaiden has full-rate auto fire enabled. For the most part, I recommend against playing Darius Gaiden with full auto, as it is possible to defeat many of the game's bosses before they get to use some of their more interesting attacks. So, to this I'd say that the game definitely was not balanced around/meant to be played with full 60fps auto-fire (I personally feel like I'm cheating playing the game in this manner). I've had no problem 1CCing the game using manual-fire on a few routes.
Well, I only thought the first stage of the game was bad in the 1P mode (Crusty Hammer on stage 1, wtf). The rest of it is just as difficult/balanced as Darius Gaiden original imo.zinger wrote: Well, that's just one of two game modes. Well that's what I'm talking about, not so hard when you've learnt his attack patterns though.DarkWolf7 wrote:Well, I only thought the first stage of the game was bad in the 1P mode (Crusty Hammer on stage 1, wtf).
Cool, I should try again then. I've no-missed no-bombed route V, should be relatively easy to clear without autofire.DarkWolf7 wrote:I've had no problem 1CCing the game using manual-fire on a few routes.

Yep, there's been a growing amount of autofire cabs in Japan since 1987, as designers put exponentially more health into their enemies.zinger wrote:So did most cabs in japan have autofire circuits installed? If you are not using autofire, don't just hold down the button when fighting bosses. The default rate can be OK sometimes during stages but there are times when tapping is best (larger enemies, Captains etc) In these cases Track & Field it, or alternate 2 fingers on the same button. Point blanking a boss so you're constantly spitting missiles into a weak spot is good.
Bosses take more damage if the rank goes up (thanks to you taking too many red items once your main weapon is at MAX). Is that extra 5000 per piece worth it? Not IMO. Once you see the two multiples appear above & below your ship, it's time to back off on red items.

Kinect? KIN NOT.
