Using gamepad/joystick with Raiden 3 (PC)
All,
My first post!
Just got Raiden 3 for the PC (fantastic game, btw) but am having trouble getting it to work with my gamepad. In the configuration tool, I selected the third item in the dropdown list of controls and was able to set each of the directions and buttons to ones on my gamepad. However, no matter what I do after that, it seems to not save my settings and I'm left using the keyboard in the game anyway.
Any suggestions (preferrably with step-by-step instructions as to what to select since the configuration tool isn't in English)?
Thanks!
Tabe

Hi there!
make sure you pushed the middle button at the bottom of the config tool in order to save. Also, if you use a Xbox360 pad Raiden3 won't recognize the dpad and you should try moving the ship with the analog stick...at least that's the case on my system.
If nothing works you can also try this, nihool posted it a while ago:

I think it's quite a nice game...especially the double mode controlling both ships simultanously with the analog sticks, mindbending!

I just love the "hardcore attitude" of so many people hereKaede wrote:Errr...unless I'm missing something here, you shouldn't be playing any shoot 'em up with an analogue stick. 8 way directional stick or joypad are the only ways you should play a shooter. You're right that digital controls are the way to go...BUT, if you're fine with the analogue, then where's the problem?
Kenta Cho's Gunroar is perfectly playable with double analogue and there is even a really good Canadian Ikaruga player whose name I forgot who plays Ika with analogue stick (Cube).
Btw, PS2-Raiden3 double play = analogue sticks.

Some of the best shmups don't actually end in a vowel.
No, this game is not Space Invaders.

What if a game fully supports it, say Giga Wing 2 and Gradius V? Being able to have different movement speed without a power up = nice.Kaede wrote:Errr...unless I'm missing something here, you shouldn't be playing any shoot 'em up with an analogue stick. 8 way directional stick or joypad are the only ways you should play a shooter. The only reason why you wouldn't use analog for Raiden III is that the game doesn't respond to anything but an analog dead zone, in which case analog control is wasted unless it's the only option you have.
so long and tanks for all the spacefish

@gameoverdude
With the new drivers from MS or the ones from XBCD Mame does recognize the dpad as Hat switch. For some strange reason Raiden 3 doesn't. Maybe that's because I installed Raiden 3 before I installed the updated drivers but I doubt it. However, I guess J2K is a way to solve problems like this.

I just got the PC version today, and IMO it's graphically an improvement (generally crisper graphics, aliasing not as bad, better lighting) over PS2.
For DOA4 Joystick users, Joy2Key is the ONLY way to go. Just map the POV1 controls to the matching arrow keys, button 2 to Z, button 3 to X and you're ready.

Kinect? KIN NOT.
