I could've sworn Shmup.com (the French site) had an article explaining all those Beattitude for Gains and the Boss references in RS.

Also...if you kindly look at my signature...I discovered the ORIGIN of the Beattitudes...lol

Nom : GALLOP
So essentially it describes everything already mentioned in this topic, apart from Armed Police Unit Gallop, and that it encompasses an entire tribute to Irem and the R-Type franchise.
There are few extended descriptions like this on the site and none as interesting as this I think.

OK, I decided to return to this thread because I have been digging through some translations of the Radiant Silvergun story and am....still confused.

I get that basically it's a take on 2001 Space Odyssey right. The stone/gem is basically the alien monolith (since at the end it's said the gem is the guardian of the earth and has been trying to guide the lives of those on the earth since mankind's early days).

And it's the age old Japanese cinema theme of makind being punished by something monstrous/supernatural in retribution for being violent and runing the earth/environment.

But one thing I don't get plot wise is who made the gem device? Was it made by the humanoid alien boss "Xiga"? I thought the gem was supposed to be alien itself but in the opening movie the scientists say it has the same ID code as the robot. If anyone can clear this up for me (as to whether the device was made by the humans or the aliens and why it has creator's ID code)

So...anyways. Now I know what it's like to obsessed with a shmup's story "Darius style" (old shmup board veteran reference :P )

Lots of interesting stuff here:

http://www.emuxhaven.net/~silver/index.htm

According to the link below, the human voices talking about the earth/violence/politics hidden in the last stage "Link" are also supposed to be allegories for small game developers (like Treasure) fighting with retailers/big companies for the sake of their fans. Very clever:

http://www.emuxhaven.net/~silver/Link%2 ... ation.html
1- Man: "This world's 11th born son holds silver guns and shoots the souls of the people." (a moment after this is said, a gun shot is heard)
2- Woman: "Please, don't give up. "
3- Man: "You stupid bastard… "
4- Man: "People stand up! This world is something that God has given us."
5- Man: "Are you crazy? Do you understand what you're doing?"
6- Man: "Wha, what are you doing!"
7- Man: "Let's hold on to our dreams, our day will certainly come."
8- Man: "Just look at this wasted Earth. It's our punishment from the heavens."
9- Man: "Kill!! Exterminate them!!"
10- Man: "We can't stop war. War is what's right for both of us..."
11- Woman: "Please, don't give up."
12- Man: "There are no hopes or dreams here…"
13- Man: "The vegetation of the past is gone."
14- Woman: "Don't give up."
15- Man: "I had a dream, but I wonder why."
16- Man: "From now on, politics centered on people will be necessary…"
17- Man: "Large scale world war has become something we can't avoid."
18- Man: "We have to reconsider this one more time. Everyone should understand."
19- Man: "The dice has been thrown. Now no one can stop it."
20- Man: "Society is undergoing changes…but there's one thing that won't change."
21- Woman: "Don't give up."
22- Man: "My dream is…in space."

23- Woman: "Do you, love me?"

24- !? (explosion)

If I remember correctly, The Stone-Like is an "alien" device that was found during an excavation. Given mankind's propensity to investigate everything unusual by trying to hack it to bits, it goes crazy and unleashes all hell, pretty much obliterating the planet. The only survivors of the Stone-like-induced Armageddon are Team Silvergun running training missions up in orbit, who decide to try and avert the disaster by travelling back in time to destroy the Stone-Like before anything bad can happen.

I think XIGA is the humanoid form of the Stone-Like, which is why the Stone-Like transforms into XIGA at the start of, and reappears from the explosion after you destroy XIGA in Stage 6.

Watch the animated intro to Saturn Mode to get a good idea of the above. I think there was a site that had a translation of the dialogue from the intro, as well as the animated ending.

EDIT: Spelling and stuff.

Thanks for the clarification, Icarus. :)

I always understood got the bit about the team going back in time to stop it. I was just confused about the relation between the gem, the robot and the humanoid boss.

That makes sense, thanks again. :) It's been awhile since I played through the entire game.

And again, it's amazing how much the theme found in Silvergun is repeated in Japanese entertainment.

After seeing those screenshots I really want to play this game, is it worth to grab the Saturn version?
The sound emulation is always a bit off in my experience

but I haven't fuckt with Saturn emulation in awhile.

My PC must be about 3 or 4 years old now, pentium 4 2.8 ghz, 1 gig ram, radeon 9600 pro. I have some fancypants Creative soundcard as well but like I said the raw emulated Saturn sound has always been a bit off, could be my pc, the emu's, etc. Most stuff uses CDDA for the music so it's not such a huge problem.

Large input lag on SSF though I've noticed, but it's still in alpha

go to ngemu.com to grab the latest version.

another reason you can't run it might be that you need a bios, at least for mame

Anyway it's all when I have nothing better to do in case I get a laptop, it's preferable to use my real Saturn 100% of the time

Yup, XIGA and The Stone-Like are one and the same. The robot (can't remember the name exactly)...

<SPOILERS!>
... is the "creator" of the "new" human race in a way, as after the time travelling back to The Origin (Stage 1) and the subsequent destruction of The Stone-Like (and the resulting super-nova sized explosion that swallows both Silverguns), the robot uses the DNA of Buster and Reana taken from hair samples to recreate the human race, Adam-and-Eve style. Which is why in the animated intro, you can see Reana and Buster in maturity capsules just before the robot finally shuts down.
</SPOILERS!>

Well yes, I always knew why the robot was named creator. I have seen all the animated intros (always loved the ending, so melancholy). I just didn't understand why the scientists said the robot's ID was on the gem. Maybe the lab he was cloning in was inside the gem and that's why they picked up his ID on it?

I think you mean to ask "why was the robot that was found with The Stone-Like at the original excavation the exact same robot as Creator, even down to the ID code". ^_-

There was no ID code on The Stone-Like, if I remember correctly.

As tends to be said around here every once in awhile, the gameplay's not for everyone, but if you buy it and don't like it its resale value isn't going anywhere, so you should be able to get most or all of your money back by reselling it.

You got the ST-V bios too? May sound like a stupid questions, but I had many many roms sitting on my harddrive for a year thinking they were "broken" until I discovered the magical world of bios files. DUH! (And if you really haven`t, the st-v bios is another file you should dl and unzip into the game rom folder).
