Oh well. The comp was still fun.
Shame really. This game is probably the easiest of all Cave chaining-based games to play, as well.
This does have a forgiving chaining system - what kills me (mentally) is that it relies on a single chain to score well through the game. As soon as I see my chain drop, I'm likely to hit the escape key. Also this game relies on that spirit gimick which I dislike. I hate trying to keep it in one spot while I move and always end up dragging it into a corner.

I may play some more, but I'm not going to put alot of time into it. I really do wish I could get that autofire thing to enable. Not too sure why f2 isn't working on this game.

This was my last pick on the vote this time, I would have even played Feveron over this. Oh I hate Feveron ;)

Not yet, but I was damn close to 1PCing my keyboard. (One Punch Clearing)

I am with landshark on this one, one chain through the entire game sucks big time for me. If the chaincounter would be reseted each stage it would be way more fun, if it would be based on stages. But this way if I somehow lose my chain in stage 2 I can't force myself to play on. I know it ain't good to reset games early, this way you don't get enough practice on the later stages and get pissed by playing stage 1 and 2 only, but I simply can't withstand the urge to reset the game if I mess up.

But don't expect me ti give up on Guwange, DJI. I will try till the last day to better my score, even if I suck at the game. :P

EDIT:
And nice score, PlasmaBlooD :)

You really don't need to keep your chain through the game for a good score - i believe Nemo is the only person here who's anywhere near doing this at the moment and his score isn't all that good. I've had a run where I dropped the chain at least twice and still beaten every score here apart from Icarus's, and last night i had a 9 million point run without ever forming a decent chain. If you're bad at chaining learning to finish the game could still bag you a very good score.

Well I build my chain slowly and keep it, but when I have it, I can't net the big coin bonuses like other people are due to reasons already described in this thread. On the otherhand, some people aren't as good at keeping their chain but are better are getting the bonuses, so basically in the time it takes me to net one 15,000 chain, other people may have netted three 7,000 chains in essence matching my output. But the bottom line is, if I was playing more effectively and keeping my chain like I am now, my score would be a lot better. So there is never any compensation for losing your original chain, but at the sametime, this game isn't nearly as rigid as most other Cave games that incorporate chaining.

I don't have time to go through every post regarding the matter, but to me it seemed that in this thread http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... highlight=
bloodflowers demonstrated exactly that?

Anyway, I'd rather download small replay files than 200 MB avi's (unless the replay files require some exotic, hard-to-obtain MAME version), as both can be forged anyways, always.

Still all conjecture, from what I've heard VMWare doesn't work anywhere near as well as you might believe when it comes to faking inps.

Can recordings and .avi's be forged? Yes. But has anyone presented an actual forged WolfMAME recording? I never saw one. I certainly wouldn't say it's impossible, but I still think that certain people believe it's easier to fake a recording than it actually is.

but I digress.

I prefer the convenience of inps too, but it's only convenient if you're MAME-savvy and have a bazillion different versions.

Agreed. And anyway you know, if you want to post a fake score you don't need a faked inp/video...

This game is horrid. Worst game of the competition by a long shot.
You must've been in another competition than the rest of us then.

Back on about the game, where are these 2000 coin bonuses you people speak of?

If you're referring to Rob's post, IIRC he was referring to snagging the first health item when you have full life, which gets you a 2000-coin bonus to your chain (the others add 3 and 4000, I think, if you can go that far without getting hit).

Pick up a food item at maximum health and get coins added to your chain as a bonus. The food item in stage3 is worth 2,000 for example.

I think it's been said before in this thread and a few others this past week that this Shikigami is not always your primary means to scoring. The thing with the control system is that you're supposed to be using the Shikigami in short bursts, switching to Shot to clear small enemies, to generate coins and to increase your mobility so you can quickly reposition yourself for the next wave. In my case at least, Shikigami use is for clearing some bullet patterns, attacking larger enemies and for bullet-stalling.

Yeah, I understand that. The game doesn't seem consistent to me. A few times I've been fighting the level 2/3 boss and I constantly have coins flying into me.

I finally got into the setup screen. I ended up holding the f2 button for like 10 seconds. Full-auto helped a bit. Now I hold full auto and tend to pulse the shiki out.

Sometimes coins fly out of enemies when I shoot them with the normal shot, but the next game they won't. I know it's probably some trigger or # of coins or something - but it's frustrating not to know ;)

You should read the ST thread then. You need over 1,000 coins and your chain meter over half-filled and flashing gold before coinstreaming will happen.

Playing w/ a keyboard is it.

As Icarus said, +1000 coins and you get small coins for each shot hit while your skull meter is gold.

BulletMagnet - Glorious Republic of Crapistan - 3,823,731 - Stage 5 - Gensuke - 7,196

Overall a good run for me, though I'm convinced that there's something programmed into the game that prevents me from getting the 2,000 coin bonus from that food item in stage 3...if I haven't taken damage, I either mysteriously manage to lose my chain right before it, or else somehow manage to destroy one of the small statues before the large one. Other parts of the game I've gotten better at as I've kept playing, but I only manage to get that particular bonus, when I do get it, after I've already lost my chain. Argh.

I had the chain up to 3700 in level 3, then I died, and finally lost it right before the boss appeared. I always die on the level 2 boss though and then use all my bombs on the level 3 boss and get to level 4 with no hope.

Guess I'll have to stick with taking on a fleet of badies with my air/spacecraft and leave doing it on foot to the truly hardcore.

Last boss, last form. Better bomb dispersement and I would've had the clear. Son of a terrorist whore. If I didn't suck so much cock on stage 4, I probably could've jumped up somewhere around Icarus' score.

If there's one thing this game can't stand, it's a healthy chain and a promising run.

So that's two things. Hey!

Comedy of errors, this one.

Icarus - namakoteam - 17,099,785 - Stage 6 - Kosame - 15,266 - [WolfMAME]

Image Image

Took the chain to just before the fourth boss before taking two quick hits to leave me with one hit left on the first bar. Then, trapped by a bullet from one of the boss's exploding barrels. >.<

Took the remaining portion of the chain all the way through to the fifth boss, building it back up to over 10k, then, a momentary lapse in concentration and the chain gets halved again a few hits before the end of the boss's lifebar. >.<

Dropped the chain completely at the section in stage6 with the boat. Hung on for dear life, fought past Guwangesama and finally got owned by the last attack pattern, again.

Replay available.
(Yes, that's "available" and not "verified" for those pedantic gits on the forum. ^_-)

Hehe, kagesan is a nice translation of your nick, Herr Schatten. :P

Some useless trivia:
Herr Schatten in German means "Mr. Shadow".
Herr = Mr. / Schatten = Shadow, so it is quite funny when some forum members are using "Herr" as his first name. And kagesan is Mr. Shadow in Japanese.

I got so fucking lucky on the fourth boss. I've gotten better a keeping my chain up to that point, and learning when you can and can't use a bomb. But on this game, I used a bomb too soon, and damn near lost the chain, only to save it with a shell spread from the guys on the boss whom I thought I'd killed (thank God I hadn't ). I still lost it pretty early in stage 5, and thoroughly got my ass handed to me when the screen started scrolling to the left with all the fan girls coming in.

Of course not. It takes a phenomenal player to create such replays even with save states, so there is no real reason why it couldn't be done in one session. I guess I was just hoping that in the .avi (your Air Gallet replay) there was a player visible, hand movements also, but it was just a screencapture, which is easier to forge (save states + some frame-by-frame video editing).

It's already been seen that even on this forum cheating exists, so I'm sometimes sceptical. And if someone uses the word "verified", then I expect at least an eyewitness report from a known forum member. Credibility can also be obtained by explaining scoring techniques, which you have already done.

Still I get this feeling that some players might use save states to skip the "routine" first couple of stages, and not necessarily even think of it as cheating, because they "would have cleared it anyway with the same or better score, it's just saving time". I hope I'm wrong on this. Anyways, I'm giving everyone the benefit of the doubt, and I'm sorry if I offended anyone in particular.
