Got to the second boss with two lifes and all bombs left, then forgot to bomb iin time and lost my second ship due to a silly "I know I can squeeze through tthat, just not now" move.

I should manage to do better, stay tuned. ;)

I was really bumbed to find out that there was no extra bonus. How could they over look this, it is not too easy to do, and damned near impossible outside of level 1. I think my best so far is either 403k or 408k.
I've been playing this with the different weapons, usually after I make early mistakes, and I'm thinking that the top-end scores are made with use of the Hunter weapon from the start of the game to the end. Mainly because its so weak that you get a lot of extra points for damaging enemies and bosses with it.
Possibly, but I can't imagine the score increase is going to be very significant. But I guess if you can 1LC the game, those few points matter.

hunter weapon doesn't score many hits at all, which is why it's so weak

winner of hits->points damage is the laser

not vulcan actually lol
so long and tanks for all the spacefish

Herr Schatten - Team Old Schoolers - 2,052,840 - stage 5 (MAME)

Whoa! HUGE improvement.

I managed to one-life my way into stage 4. From the stage 3 boss on, I pretty much bombed my way through the game (as everything after the third stage was completely unknown territory to me) and managed to stay alive due to some crazy lucky dodging.

I'm really enjoying this game. I doubt it will show up in my next top 25, but it's definitely the game with the highest fun factor for me in this tournament so far.

A 1LC will give you a massive boost to your score, definitely. I'm more curious in this with regards to point-squeezing, although I'm not likely to try for it myself as Air Gallet isn't a game I'll keep playing after this playing week.

I dunno, the Laser is too powerful to take advantage of the low-strength-to-points thing. Vulcan maybe at long-distance. I think Hunter is the weapon for serious point-milking off bosses and stuff, but I'll have to do an experiment to see if that's the case.

whoaa!!

got annihilated by 4th boss and was getting ready to take it in stage 5.. but yeah stage 5 was the easiest so far.. onelifed the stage and boss with no lives and just two bombs (used one at the black stealths and one at the boss's arm spread), even built up the powerups from nought to max :P

stage 6 seems to be alot harder tho, didnt get very far in it..

ed: hehe i was stoked just breaking 2mil after stage 4.. would have never guessed id add an extra 500K to that

I'm sorry I wasted my time with that last post. If you guys were mistaken about the perfect bonus, please tell it now to avoid confusion.

its only milking utility is in stage 2, where the side drones are worth 2k a pop

I believe you oxtsu! Ya got the PCB after all. If I had a PCB I'd be playin' my balls off on it.
So I've been runnin' the Europe version, and the medal perfect bones things are far less strict like the discussions throughout this thing. That could very much add up to a version difference I bet.

And the double-tap speed-up flying thing. I can almost trigger it by will, but it only kicks in after a full second of holding the button on the dash command, which means I have to cross the whole screen to do it...and it's still not good for any bullet pattern. On random occasions I can kick it in mid-rapid-dodging in random directions. Do you think there could be a second series of commands to initiate the speed burst? I started trying street fighter moves like the capture-balled mid-bosses on G Darius, but I haven't figured it out. Any addition explainition as to how and when you kick in your speed burst thingie?

Very small improvement, made it to the first form of the last boss, and took some of the turret pods with me before biting the bullet.

Icarus - namakoteam - 3,391,190 - Stage 6 - [WolfMAME]

Image

Lost two lives at the fourth boss from bad movements and a slow bomb finger, and one at the stage5 boss, carrying Hunter of all things.

I'll get the ALL yet.

Replay verified.

Haha, exactly 400k at the end of stage1.

I agree this game is pretty good. It's a little bit Old School even (go team!).

I hate stage 1 though, I screw up there a lot.

Mission 5 was easy, but I didn't expect the fifth boss to open its arms and fire like it did. I lucked out on the fourth boss, as I had three bombs to use plus a guys still in reserve. Took every bomb I had to get through him. Not sure how I'm gonna find a pattern through all the fast blue and red orbs it fires...

I did the 4th boss today at full rank with no bombs. It's just tap tap tap tap as he fires. The hard part is finding the right time to reverse direction and tap back. Somtimes you have to tap up too.

Sounds identical to the spread used by the Final Boss 2nd form.
3rd Form however is complete BS.

That 1st form is horrible, the 1st/5th/9th/etc attack. It's just mean, dodging it is crazy hard.

The game over + intro sequence is absolutely unbearable, even holding the shot button. So I gave in and started using a savestate right before stage 1 begins. I feel dirty, but much less frustrated. Durr.
