How did Cave get their name?
The name "Cave" normally doesn't make me think of shmups.
I just have been wondering where they got their name.

That's sort of an interesting topic...I wonder where a lot of VG companies (shmup-centric or not) came up with their names from. Heck, the same goes for just about any company, really.
As for the actual question, I have no clue, heh heh. Maybe one of our Japanese-speaking/reading members could see if their homepage says anything about it.

Coincidence, I would guess. Japanese companies in all industries have silly names that have nothing to do w/ their products/services. On that note, the Japanese language has very creative (as well as stupid) ways of making acronyms and abbreviations that make little since, so who the fuck knows.

I have an old Famitsu magazine that has a short article on the origins of several game companies' names. I'll have to dig it out and translate it. Stay tuned...

Konami = Kozuki, Nakama, Matsuda (the three founders)
G.Rev /G.Revolution = the "G" represents "G Darius", the game the G.rev Team worked on before going independent
Toaplan = East Asia Plan
SNK = Shin Nihon Kikaku (New Japan Project)
Psikyo = not about this. the two characters mean "colorful" and "capital"
Namco = Nakamura Manufacturing Company
Namcot (seen on all Namco homeconsole releases until the mid-90s) = Namco Taku (Taku = home)

Are you sure about that? What did G Darius mean in the first place? I remember someone mentioning the name G.Rev could be related to NAOMI BIOS. Hiroyuki Maruyama says it's a secret...CIT wrote:G.Rev /G.Revolution = the "G" represents "G Darius", the game the G.rev Team worked on before going independent

According to the latest interview, the shacho said, "It stands for Game Revolution, the origins of which are a secret".G.Rev /G.Revolution = the "G" represents "G Darius", the game the G.rev Team worked on before going independent
Square doesn't make me think of RPGs. Well... it didn't until about Final Fantasy 38.The name "Cave" normally doesn't make me think of shmups.
