new titles in Goodge

Post by DEL »

Putting Batsugun Special in one of the cabs shouldn't be a problem. I would do this just before the Meet.

Would Ibara be an acceptable replacement for Ketsui in the main sit-down cab?
No one here has Galuda 2 or Ibara BL yet, so Ibara is the latest thing we can offer.

Cheers :D

DEL, will you have another go at Prehistoric Isle?

I might fly over just to watch that.

Has the stick in the Mushi cab been fixed in the meantime? Is Cyvern still there?

Meet IV

Post by DEL »

Herr Schatten - Prehistoric Isle always gets a few plays  - Damn thing is the Bain of my Life  ! Should have finished off that Tyrannosaurus back in the Day.

Mush will be fine, I'll make sure Bob double checks it.

Cyvern is at home at the moment. But I'm open to requests closer to the time. 3 cabs are available for shooter boards. The rest are Fighter boards, as there has been a major overhaul of Fighter titles in Casino recently. The arcade is much much busier now - 6 new or requested Fighting titles, including a version of VF that apparently is the only one outside Japan. Details are on neoempire.com-net but I wouldn't bother posting there, as they don't seem to like shoot'em up players posting on their 'fighting' site.

@ptoing - Job done. I put my A.P. Batrider back in tonight, moving Ketsui to an upright. V.V. came out.

I cannot show up this week (need to go back home on Saturday, right now i'm in Utrecht), but somewhere around October would be ace. In general, any week-end after the 20th of September should be fine. It would be cool if the last week of the tournament sports a game in the casino arcade

Meet IV

Post by DEL »

London Meet IV would be sometime in October or later.
Casino arcade may well be used for Tournament play, especially during Raizing week.

I've still got my Batrider Board in the large sit-down cab. I will change it if the Raizing game chosen is something else.

As posted before, pretty much any weekend is fine for me.

I should be there on Sunday, after the LAC meeting :)

the casino really does my head in - it has so many good games but the controls are unbelievable. i last went in a few weeks ago on a sunday afternoon. i started a game on raiden fighters as it had 3 credits left on it, after about 2 minutes i gave up as the left stick felt so bad the game was no fun to play, and the right side was rubbish too. i grabbed the sticks on ketsui and mushi and it was obvious they weren't going to be any fun to play in the state they were in so i fled the shooters section and dropped a coin in Marvel Super Heroes, and struggled through to the end of the game but the controls again ensured i didn't have too much fun. I realise the sticks probably aren't quite so bad for those of you that go there often but i still think it's a shame they can't get it right given how cheap quality controls are. i notice a lot of posters on the neo-empire forum are unhappy with the place too, and it makes me sad

man, i must pick that up.

might try to make the next london meet :)

ed: taking such poor care of the machines is very sad indeed, for an op buying bulk of joysticks/buttons means they cost nearly nothing, changing joysticks every 3-4 months (not necessary for shmups, but some of the more intense fighters) is hardly an even noticeable expense and just plain poor buisness sense not to do imo...

Disrepair & Despair

Post by DEL »

True, only 1 cab is in a good state - the sit-down with batrider.

The rest of the vert cabs at the back are wasting electricity. Bob and the Boss know that Fighters are the only games that will take money, so they have uprated those cabs only.

So now, I just go in to practice Batrider, play Sopranos Pinball & meet up with the neoempire fighter guys (most of whom I've known for many years).

2 candy cabs in the back, replacing the eight or so old school Electrocoin uprights, would do fine. But how can I make that happen??

i dont know how devoted you are but maybe volunteering to change the stuff if just he put up the matereal or something?

Casino

Post by DEL »

sven - Well we have a guy called Fire-Bug who's been a bit of a Local Hero recently & helped change/set up 6 new/different fighting titles in Casino Arcade over the last few months. He's helped put several new joysticks in those cabs and wired-up Tekken DR so that players can bring their own joysticks and plug them into DR. Thanks to him & masamune, Casino also has a version of VF that is the only one outside Japan. Casino is fairly busy now every day, because of Fire-Bug's efforts.

Anyway, I'll talk to him about candy cabs. There is a slight possibility we could get Casino to replace the uprights at the back with a couple of candys. The main problem with Casino at the moment, is the lack of Vert screen cabs. The only Vert screens are in a burnt-out state. Just the Mush cab and the Batrider sit down cab have decent vert screens.

The new Mega Casinos coming to the UK are a large potential threat to the few existing arcades in London. There's a chance that a new law could be implemented that effectively wipes-out the last arcades.
-> Off Topic - Judging from recent interviews with the UK public, they seem to be blissfully unaware of the dangers of Mega Casinos coming to the UK. Some even think that it will bring employment to the surrounding regions--HA! It'll bring some low paid for high skill jobs and 99% of the cash will go straight to the Las Vegas Billionaires and the Greedy British Government. The UK gambling public will be bled dry and the poor will get poorer as usual. The Mega Casinos will be allowed to Monopolize and no doubt our last video game arcades will vanish.

Doom & Gloom eh? :D

Naah  , its something along the lines of 'premises smaller than a certain size will no longer have the right to run AWP & above fruit machines'. ie. Granting a monopoly to Mega Casinos only & crucifying the existing small arcades like Casino. But don't quote me on that, I'm not really sure, just grapevine stuff.

that sucks, sounds a bit like what we have in sweden.

the government has a monopoly on "gaming machines", if you want to use one you have to get all kinds of expensive and difficult licenses.
unfortunatley "gaming machines" is just about everything that you can put coins into - arcades, fruitmachines, pinball - you name it :(

anyways it has very effectivly killed every arcade in the country, and every pizzeria with a pinball table has switched it to a government-approved fruitmachine :x

frankly, casinos and gambling sucks ass!!

lol, firebug  sounds like a real character :D cred!!

Ketsui has colour??!?

Post by DEL »

Casino Update: After attending the International Shooter Meet in Milan, I noticed (on NEV's Egret II) that Ketsui has colours   ?! So last night I got Bob the Engineer to fiddle about with the sit down cab in Casino. With the result that Ketsui is now looking pretty good in Goodge St - in Glorious Technicolor :!:
& Yes I put Ketsui back in the large sit-down cab.

So at least people will have something decent to play now, on their once a year visits

That sounds good, the sit down cab seemed to me to be the only one that was in good enough condition for me to be able to play without too much frustration. Also i notice Third Strike is now in the casino, which is awesome news though i imagine most of you don't care.

I have Espgaluda 2 (and probably Ibara and/or Pink Sweets by the time of the meet) and as the new cave games are so small i could potentially lob a couple in a biscuit tin or something and bring them down for the day, then if anybody is trusted enough by the Casino they could borrow the keys to a cab or two for the meet and we could stick them in?

Raizing

Post by DEL »

Yes mulletgeezer, I was down Goodge last night. Masamune was putting 3rd Strike in the VF cab with Bob. I guess you read about it on Neoempire.

Ketsui is playable in that large sit-down cab and we've got it looking a lot better than before.

PINK SWEETS is a 'Meet-Maker'! - Just advise me when you've got it & I'll start the London Meet IV thread.
Pls note that the best we can do is get Bob to install it on a Friday evening. He only turns up on Fri & Sunday evenings. If the Meet is on a Saturday (as usual), then he won't be there and we'd be stuffed unless the PCB can be put in the night before.

If ill6 gets the Pink Sweets board also, we may have more options...

That's a shame, as the casino are letting people put cabs and stuff in I was hoping they might let you have cab keys for a day or two but I understand that they might not want to do that. As i don't live in London there's no way I can leave stuff in there. Still, Pink Sweets has gone down to just over £600 now and Espagluda 2 is about £300 i think so ill6 could probably afford them both if you nag him a bit :)

If i remember rightly Third Strike is going in on an agreement that it will be bought by the casino if it makes money. Maybe you could do the same with some shmups?

Post by DEL »

Any one of those 3 games are good for the next London Meet. The only one I haven't played yet is Ibara Black Label.

mulletgeezer - I'm afraid that Bob is unlikely to go for the 'buy the game' option when it comes to shoot'em ups. Unfortunately they don't take the coins like the fighting games. He allows me to put them in for free, and that's it. I thank Heaven for small Mercies anyway :)
