I always thought it was funny how so many shmuppers are turned off by the disco theme. I mean really, do we take ourselves so seriously that we feel insecure around anything but techno and heavy metal?
I asked this on the temp board and nobody replied, so I'll ask again: Does anybody know how popular this game was in the Japanese arcades? Cave never made a game like it ever again, so I'd assume it didn't do so well. Then again, people look to Cave for more epic-style gameplay... personally, I'd love to see more like this, but I am a bit biased.

Are you sure you're not missing any? At the beginning of stage 3 I usually have about 1,400,000 (I think, it's been awhile), which is enough to get on the board. If you're playing for points, you can't afford to miss a single one.
It does take practice, though. Unlike most shmups, you can't beat the default high score after playing the game a couple times (hell, sometimes the first time).
