The local kids:

More hit than miss. Plus: lots of Slayer during morning drivetime (they broadcast over the air here as well).

former long time lurker now a new member here. Nice to meet you, guys. :)

I really appreciate most of you guys' musical tastes but I can't believe, nobody mentioned SomaFM yet.
Especially Groove Salad on there is worth a listen.

And for the D&B heads out there, Bassdrive is a must.
Hey welcome!

Thanks for the D&B station, nice to have something else on my playlist should the need arise for a change in musical taste. ^_^

Using http://www.di.fm/edmguide/edmguide.html , you'd be quite right. But what's the standards on how to name the sub-subgenres in-discussion nowadays. You'd think Hardcoreradio.nl and Masters of Hardcore would rename themselves with some accuracy. But then "Masters of Hardcore" sounds more familiar and cooler than "Masters of Gabba."

Meh, I don't make the rules...
DEL wrote: There's been a lot of cheese in the gabber scene though, and you've pretty much got to know which labels & artists to look for.
lol, the remakes of Paint it Black and Alive. I like their formula to take legit songs and change the lyrics to add the word "hardcore" to as much of it as they can. So, so lame.
DEL wrote:Might be worth checking www.gabberhimmel.de
The Deathchant label from the UK is also very good Distortion gabba.
Certain tracks from 'South of London' are good too (I think this comes out of France, strangely enough).
How convenient, your site links up to the two stations I listen to. Good recommendation. I can add some mixes to me collectoin. Thank you very much! :)

Thank you all again for answering my many questions...and for pardoning the fact I can't make out distorted lyrics in Underworld songs.

I wish America came out with consistent good music again*...

Are deathchant still going? That was a good label for fast breaks and stuff. I noticed planet mu released a compilation of some hellfish/dj producer tracks.

I used to be really into gabba in my teen years, although I moved towards hip hop a few years ago. I must have about 500+ records gathering dust from industrial strength, bloody fist, terrortraxx etc. It's been a good 5-6 years since I kept up with the scene, though I heard quite a few of the big labels folded. Is there still life there?

DJ Incompetent - I've got that Paint it Black remix, its cheesy but still better than a lot of the stuff out there.

Freddiebamboo - I have a similar range of stuff to you. I was even wearing my old TerrorTraxx t-shirt at London Meet III.
Deathchant IS still going: http://www.phuturerave.com/list.php
I've always liked Hip Hop too and try to keep my mind open on musical styles.

1. Any good Japanese streaming radio? Does Japan have much in the way of independent radio? I think I've read the situation there isn't that good.

2. Anyone listen to wfmu? They have lots of archived shows I want to hear, but I forgot how to save them. :( Streaming skips for me.

Can't recall seeing many online J-radio stations on my travels, but there are probably some around. Just need to find them. In the meanwhile, Kawaii Radio manage the Japanese flavour quite well, and so do /a/-radio. If I can remember any more I'll pop them down.

As for now, I'm on a VGM and chiptune kick.

Yes. I'm surprised more people haven't mentioned WFMU. I also have the problem with skipping though.

For those of you who have never heard of BBC Radio 1's Essential Mix - shame on you.
Recently I came across a site that has every EM available to stream, so you can now catch up with 15 years of history.

Flying Lotus' most recent EM is pretty wicked stuff, and if you're a trancehead, check out the pre-millennium EMs, as I reckon the pre-millennium era had some of the best trance remixes ever made.

Also, there's Armin van Buuren's "A State of Trance" radio show, broadcasting on DI.FM's premium show, as well as on other sites. There's a list of host sites on his homepage.

You can download the sets too. You can subscribe to get them, or you can use FlashGot and DownThemAll for Firefox to snatch the MP3 as it streams. ^_-

If you're a trancer, get Above and Beyond's 2004 EM, voted best EM of '04. Been listening to it the past 10hrs while working on my project, it is kickass stuff, and reminded me of why I love euphoric trance.
http://www.mixriot.com/content/above-be ... 2004-12-26

There's a Goldie set on there too, a must for D&B fans.
http://www.mixriot.com/content/goldie-em-2007-04-08

I also recently tracked down Ferry Corsten's 5hr set at Avalon in '04, which is phenomenal stuff. If I can find the link again, I'll drop it up.

People interested in MSX, PC-88xx/98xx, X68K & FM-Towns VGM should check out Retro PC GAME MUSIC Streaming Radio.

Or open url in preferred media player & add port 8000:
http://gyusyabu.ddo.jp:8000

There's a request server with thousands of tracks available & the homepage has a list from 1985-1996 with pictures
and other info of each available game on the server... It's very good.

My favorite is Philosomatika. Psytrance & goa, 128kb/s, no ads and unlike di.fm, it plays no darkpsy and no ambient. Perfect when playing a game with bad soundtrack :D
