Does anyone listen to streaming radio at all? Got anything interesting?

My two favourite stations are:

Digitally Imported, a great place for tranceheads like myself, as they play music from all dance genres - hard house, vocal, chillout, progressive - and its got old and new tunes all the time. I'm listening to the vocal trance channel at the moment, absolutely awesome stuff.

The other one is for a laugh, and is Kawaii Radio, which plays J-Pop, anime and games music. Great for something lighthearted.

Kawaii Radio is nice too.

ahhhh, Digitally Imported. Right there with ya buddy. :D House 'n Trance to the end.

101.1 WRIF Detroitbroadcasts globally. M-F 6-10ish AM EST is the Drew & Mike talk show. There's probably better anywhere else, but it's Michigan. We deal with it. At least it's better than Bob & Tom. Any other part of the day it's just bad, outdated, or played-to-death fossil rock that doesn't remember how it got its fans in the first place.

ocremix.org and the ormgas radio have some game music prized possessions worth pilfering. But you'll have to find them...and sift through the endless Crono Trigger & Final Fantasy garbage.

Masters of Hardcore Radio. mohradio.com and to a lesser extent, Hardcoreradio.nl
Darkcore or Evil Hardcore. There's some really great music here, but there's also really shitty stuff too. A great place to go if you need something...say....overdramatic.

I always wanted to ask the Holland and England people on here and everyone in-between if "hardcore" was a genre with an over-inflated ego or if there really was a presence in thoses areas?

Icarus, you have any artists of preference?

Great thread!

We have "happy hardcore" which is extremely annoying, ultra-speeded-up chipmunk music with someone trying to MC over it and failing hard. Chavs usually listen to it, which drives the rest of us normal people up the wall. ^_-

For trance and stuff?

I'm pretty much open to everything old and new as dance music is something I always enjoy. My iPod is full of the stuff, from prog to psychedelic, from hard house to euphoric, from drum and bass to chillout. I don't have any main favourites per se, but I do like stuff from Leftfield, Orbital, Chemical Brothers. Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Hallucinogen, Koxbox, Goldie, Faithless, Sasha, Three Drives, Prodigy, Tiesto, Lisa Lashes, Portishead... the list goes on.

Usually I buy compilations from the likes of Cream, Ministry of Sound, Gatecrasher, Godskitchen etc, and get quite a good mix of stuff. Anything that catches my ears usually gets bought in CD or LP format soon after. Been to some of the major festivals as well, which is one of the things that got me into dance music in the first place. Just love the atmosphere at a club or a major event.

As long as the beats are good and I can play the music at near max volume through my iPod headphones, I'm happy. *d^_^b* ~♪ ♪ ♪

If you are not too fussy about music format and don't mind paying for new stuff to download, http://www.godskitchendigital.com/ (currently being updated) and http://www.beatport.com/ have some great stuff that is always updated.

EDIT: Forgot to add, Ministry of Sound also do online radio too. Excellent range of dance genres in one station.

lol, yeah. Then there's the Happy version. I would much agree 90% of it is a total train wreck. Chavs go for it huh. So in USA terms, happy hardcore is wigger white trash music for a UK scene. Facinating.

Well, if knowingly listening to anything close to it will not instantly give you a Chav label, I would say have a listen to the Kevin Energy disc of Hardcore Heaven 2. I imported the set from there and it is excellent. 2 of the 3 anyway. No chipmunk and MC attempts. Well...maybe the Sy disk.

Hey D, if you pass by this thread, how's the scene in Holland?

Yeah, I'm all over the place on genres too. I went to World Electronic Music Festival some weekends back. The best part was setting up a row of lawn chairs in front of the Trance stage with a half-gallon of vodka and a case of Rip-Its. Later that night I had my first drunken run-in with Ex and passed out on a rock conveniently shaped like a sofa recliner 15 feet from the drum 'n bass stage. The next night I got kicked out of the hardcore stage because I brought in cooler-chilled squirt guns to the 200 degree (F) indoor stage. Getting severely reemed out by this all-german speaking bouncer was pretty funny in retrospect. I think I hit the stage with water on accident.

I was too "hardcore" for the "hardcore" stage...how does that work?:roll:

Story aside, I've been listening to 2ManyDJs/Hang the DJ/Radio Soulwax (multi-genre), Anne Savage (Trance), Jackel & Hyde (DnB), Hybrid (Trance), DJ Crash (DnB), Neophyte (Darkcore), Crystal Method (...), Angerfist (Darkcore), Infected Mushroom (Acid/GOA Trance), Capital J(DnB), Kevin Yost (House/Chillout), DJ Irene (Hard House), DJ Shadow (all over the place/Chillout) old Richard (Humpty) Vission (Hard House), Carl Cox (House), and like...half the stuff you said.

Godskitchen have been up to Newcastle (where I live) twice now, both times at the Arena (the main stage for everything from major gigs to sporting events) and I've been both times, for the full 9 hours each time. The atmosphere was electric, they had the main GKitch stage and one for Sundissential, for hard house. I loved just moving between both stages and the chillout zone, just taking it all in. My favourite memory of the first of the GK events was taking a seat high up on the side of the arena to chill and rest with my friends, and seeing the floor below (which can hold over 7000 people) swarming with people when Judge Jules came on to mix his set. Just a sea of people, was quite a sight.

Anyway, events are pretty neat here. Aside from the resident clubs down near the capital, we get hige events like Godskitchen Global Gathering and Creamfields, definitely worth checking out when they come around, and if you can get over here. Other than that, I think some of the club event promoters do overseas as well. Might want to check out the sites for Godskitchen, Sundissential, Cream etc to see if one drops by in your area.

Got some nice names on your list, like Carl Cox...

They are awesome. Its a shame that most of the club event promoters (the ones I've namedropped before - Cream etc) don't have live radio as well. Just have to make do with Digitally Imported until then. ^_-

http://202online.com/ has a cool New Wave online radio station, free from commercials. I listen to that at work. Maybe a little bit too much OMD and B-52's, but it's okay. Lots of New Order, Psychedelic Furs, and plenty of nostalgic stuff I'd forgotten about.

I used to listen to Digitally Imported and Kawaii Radio too actually. Probably got them off the top of the list at Shoutcast or something? That's one of the places I used to go to get stations.

Anyway, for a long time now I've been listening to custom channels at Pandora.com. Pretty much kicks ass. I have about 5 channels there I listen to. Mostly though I have been listening to a Rock channel I made which features among others:

DragonForce
Hammerfall
Kamelot
Gamma Ray
Avenged Sevenfold
3 Inches of Blood
KMFDM
Rob/White Zombie
Manson
NIN
Ministry
Rammstein

Yep, the Shoutcast radio is practically the end-all be-all online station hub to get to just about any subgenre you choose....provided you know all eight names of it so you're able to search it down.

http://www.shoutcast.com

Did it happen to anybody else that Winamp just kinda ditched a good 75% of their pre-listed internet radio selection? Does anybody know what I'm talking about and maybe why did that happen? Didn't search hard, but I was curious.

I'll do the night-night jazz and world events in soft monotone from me college once in awhile too. http://www.wemu.org/

:lol: That's a big fat negatory on events in or south of the Great Lakes. Surpriiiiise Surpriiiiise. Profitable American music is about 99% lyrics-based or idiot-based. Detroit's rave scene nearly getting totaled didn't help. Booty-Rap, Country, and Emo reign supreme in the MichLP.

I'll wait for the Detroit Electronic Music Festival until then...if they don't force all the ads down my throat.

When I feel the need to get myself strip-searched at the Canadian border again, I'll see what the Canada scene has to offer. I just missed the chance to hear Capital J on a boat in Toronto..because I'm a broke-ass.
Icarus wrote: If you like psychedelic and similar, check out Astral Projection and Green Nuns of the Revolution. There are a few more names I forget at the moment, they'll come to me eventually. ^_^;;
Didn't know about Green Nuns. But I have a Astral Projection vs. Infected Mushroom mix. It rocks teh socks...in lack of a better saying.

Any more artists of recommendation you want to throw to the table would be useful..as...you know your UK and I suck at being American. 'Seems we operate about the same lines of taste anyway. Thanks by the way on props earlier.
This site always reminds me of that movie High Fidelity. I'll always forget the link and not think to look for it, but some immense length of time later somebody will find a way to get me back to it and I get another wonderful reflection just how much my genre tastes have evolved since last time.

Realizing I have about 1/8 of all the samples on there creeps me out as well.

hahahaha, Lisa Lashes and Lock 'n Load are under "Stupid House!!" *high five*

Neon, how about your artists? Besides the guitar gods and everything related. You know what I mean..

Seriously, I have never, ever, not once heard a single person speak ill of that song. Is there anything infamous about it? At WEMF, it was kinda crowded with advertisers trying to blast their systems to compete with the actual stages. After the 1st night when the Trance stage played it, I heard it 3 other times the next day. Every time it came on there was mass cheering. I personally hate anything repeated in the same day and I wasn't even bothered by it.

I actually discovered Digitally Imported and Kawaii Radio off searching for radio stations on Google. I used to listen to Trance Airwaves but they disappeared a while ago and needed something to fill the void. Along came DI and I've been a happy bunny ever since. ^_^

Hibernate, Logic Bomb, Koxbox and Hallucinogen are the others on my iPod that I'd recommend if you want some more psychedelic. As for vocal and euphoric, perhaps you might have heard stuff from Delerium, Cosmic Gate, The Traveller And In Motion, Timo Maas, PPK, MKL, Humate, Dreamcatcher...

Its "infamous" to me because it is extremely popular and is used in everything from film to adverts, you can rarely escape it here. Its a damn fine track however, and I love the remixes of it.

Speaking of which, I might upload a selection of favourite tracks off my iPod during the weekend. A few singles, a few off the mix collections, and maybe a few whitelabels.

Yes, forget that Happy Hardcore shit.
There is a presence in the UK, Holland & Germany for Gabber Hardcore though. Super fast yet bouncy hardcore techno would be the best description of it. I've been into it since I first heard it emerging from Rotterdam in the very early 90s. You mentioned Neophyte the Dutch Gabber band, who have been around since the early days. I suppose the Darkcore you mention refers to the current trend to slower/darker gabba.
There's been a lot of cheese in the gabber scene though, and you've pretty much got to know which labels & artists to look for.
My avatar just happens to be D-Boy Records - a Gabber label from Italy. I think they've recently stopped but they were pretty good.
A lot of good gabber has come out of Germany over the years! Might be worth checking www.gabberhimmel.de
The Deathchant label from the UK is also very good Distortion gabba.
Certain tracks from 'South of London' are good too (I think this comes out of France, strangely enough).

Apart from European hardcore, I've recently been getting into Grime coming out of London. Artists like Klasnekof.

DJ: I don't listen to any 'guitar god' stuff really...as a guitarist myself I was just really impressed with those vids. My favourite guitar players are more along the lines of John Lennon, Tom Morello from Rage, etc. Solo in 'Nowhere Man' is the best guitar solo evah.

Especially Groove Salad on there is worth a listen.
