Kaitei Daisensou psx vs sat
I didn't see a thread addressing this.. maybe I didn't hunt far enough but I was wondering if the psx vers is better than the sat vers? I own the sat in the hunt but heard the psx is better from some and then the sat vers from others...

Just thought I'd pop in and say that the PS1 version (and presumably the Sat ver. too) has the stages appering in a different order than the arcade original.
PS : South pole > Channel > Seabed ruins > Sunken town > Deep dark sea > Enemy base
AC : South pole > Sunken town > Channel > Deep dark sea > Seabed ruins > Enemy base
So the only way to play In the Hunt in original form is by PCB or emulation. Also, the Sat version only has an arranged soundtrack while the PS1 got the original plus a brand new one.
PS : South pole > Channel > Seabed ruins > Sunken town > Deep dark sea > Enemy base
AC : South pole > Sunken town > Channel > Deep dark sea > Seabed ruins > Enemy base

Except for the fact that the AST was encoded using some crappy bitrate. There's tons of popping and crackling on all of the arrange tracks, which is really inexcusable for DA.Turrican wrote:I truly love the PS rearranged soundtrack, it's great!MNK wrote:So the only way to play In the Hunt in original form is by PCB or emulation. Are you playing the Japanese PS1 version and the US PCB/Rom? Im sure the Japanese PS1 level order is the same as the Japanese PCB.MNK wrote:Just thought I'd pop in and say that the PS1 version (and presumably the Sat ver. too) has the stages appering in a different order than the arcade original.

Not sure on the differences between the PSX and Saturn ports, but I must admit after owning both Japanese and English PCB’s I was surprised to see that there was a differing level order. That, and the order that the boss icon thingies are stamped into the metal hull after each stage changes too. There are some other enemy occurrence differences too, eg. in the south pole there's a nasty little spot just after you pass a large mountain and approach a small ice berg where in unison a handful of bomber jets and a large bomber plane fly over from the left and naturally, being bent on blood lust you try and waste the big bomber after dispatching the smaller jets while dodging the slews of bombs it peppers forth, but the amount of times my perfect run through the first couple of stages is cut short by not letting go of this bomber plane I couldn't count. Anyway, this bomber isn't in the English release (or at least on normal difficulty). Proof enough that Japanese games are at times watered down in the difficulty stakes for the western market.CAVE man wrote:Are you playing the Japanese PS1 version and the US PCB/Rom? Truly a classic little title from Irem though, I’ve sold my English PCB though I’ll take my original Kaitei Daisensou PCB to the grave!
I may be stating flat out common knowledge here, but at least some of the crew that worked on “In The Hunt” went on to make the awesome “Geo Storm” (Gun Force 2) and then to the ranks of NAZCA to produce Metal Slug. The artistry is unmistakable.
